Do you have trouble getting a seat on Metro in the morning? On Monday, that could get at least a little bit easier. Regular Red and Green line passengers will find additional eight-car trains running during peak hours, thanks to the 20 additional rail cars Metro plans to put into service next week. Metro says that three additional trains each on the Red and Green lines will become eight cars long, with the remaining cars to be used together as a “gap” train that will be available when another train experiences problems during the morning and afternoon rush hours. The additional rail cars will mark the first time in the agency’s 33-year history that 850 rail cars will be in service at one time.

On the surface this looks great, but it what really comes down to is that Metro now has a 33% greater chance to FAIL.

Ok, but can we talk about how last night a little after 11pm the Gallery Place-Chinatown platform was so crowded there was nowhere to STAND to wait for a red line train?

I ended up walking to a bus that would take me home. And a homeless woman tried to punch me. No joke.

you probably deserved to get punched by the homeless lady, standing in her sleeping area at 11pm waiting for a bus. that's taxi-hailing time, not bus riding time.

Seems when other lines get more cars, my Blue line loses a car or two.

I guess this explains why it seems like every train is now stopping at the end of the station as if they're already an 8-car train; just practicin'.
