While you might think there's need for your tinfoil hat in preparation for a close encounter, these great round canopies aren't UFOs. We've seen lots of shots of this subject in the DCist Flickr pool, but christaki took time to frame the lifesaver like landscape architecture found in the plaza at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, just so. Designed in 1990 by Martha Schwartz, the plaza contains repetitive circles of planters and canopies that contrast with the heavy lines of the HUD building, which was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1968.
