Despite complaints by some Ward 6 residents about idling engines, the Nationals say they will continue to offer shuttles from RFK to Nationals Park this season, WTOP's Adam Tuss reports. Like last year, Nats fans will be able to park for free at RFK and catch the free shuttle to the ballpark. More interesting: Tuss notes that "Team officials have not yet announced plans for any changes to parking around the stadium." Considering all the fear mongering about traffic and parking nightmares that never materialized, you'd think the Nats might want to try to do something more with the mostly empty, hideous above-ground parking lots in front of the stadium.

DC has a baseball team? News to me...
Is drinking hard liquor and smoking weed allowed on the bus?
Yes, but only on the top deck of the open-air buses. You'll then be encouraged to stand up and do "the wave" as your transport cruises under limited clearance overpasses.
gotta think that this shuttle won't last the season. enough people take the metro and buses to the park, and when people realize there is closer parking that isn't being used, ridership will steadily decrease.
that, and if the team sucks, attendance will be so low that there will just be no need anyway.
The shuttle provides a fairly easy, free way for families to park and bring kids to the games. I don't see what's so wrong with it. Did I mention "free"? Certainly a hell of a lot better than what the Redskins offer people.
Agreed. But if people didn't find something wrong with free parking, then this wouldn't be a post, now would it?
Basically, bitching about having to take a bus serves as an excuse to bitch about the cost associated with parking on a nearby lot, and save the time associated with the bus ride. It's like $40 per game to park in the two parking lots adjacent to the stadium. Not cheap, but I doubt the Nats are going to lower that anytime soon. Gotta keep the proletariat in their place, and the suite-ers prefer it that way! LET THEM EAT CAKE!
Right, because it's impossible to take public transportation with kids...?
If people really must drive into the District, there's no reason to subsidize them parking for free at RFK and giving them a shuttle when there's an unused pay parking garage at the stadium, as well as street parking in the area.
I'd pay people not to bring kids on public transit. Kids stink.
Please. Subsidize - you know this isn't the city doing this, right? The team pays for the buses. And drivers to RFK almost exclusively use the SE Freeway that goes straight into Lot 8. It's not like they're blocking the grid (which they probably would do more of if they drove to the Park).
Plenty of families take Metro to the games, but it's good to have options for families that can't access stations easily.
The Nats and the city would love to do something with the above ground lots surrounding the stadium. However, in case you haven't heard, current economic conditions are not exactly conducive to new development. In other words, we will all have to wait for the promised "entertainment district" with the cool bars and the hip restaurants and the chic cafes. A few more years of street vendors, Five Guys and Subway.
It does look like the W-Aloft Hotel is progressing nicely however. They better offer rates at below government per-diem or else they will be empty. The Navy Yard and its contractors, not the stadium, are the current economic drivers in near Southeast.
people bitch about it because taxpayers funded the whole mess. obama himself could be paying for the shuttle buses but it's still be an issue because the baseball stadium and the team have been a total failure.
How has the stadium been a total failure? Actually it's been far from it.
what happens there -- poorly attended baseball games and what else?
Some poorly attended games for a disappointing team doesn't make the stadium a total failure. The city is making money off of its investment there.
