The Washington Business Journal brings word of eight more Starbucks stores that will close in the D.C. metro area. Among the stores to be shuttered are the Cleveland Park store at 3420 Connecticut Ave. NW, the Georgetown location at 3301 M St. NW (already closed, as far as we know), both 11201 New Hampshire Ave. and 3850 International Drive in Silver Spring, and the store located in the Dulles Retail Plaza.
The closest Starbucks locations to the soon-to-close Cleveland Park store are the National Zoo location, at 3000 Connecticut Avenue NW, and the Van Ness location, at 4250 Connecticut Ave. NW.
The last round of Starbucks closings, announced last summer, didn't affect D.C. very much.

the cleveland park one is kinda surprising. right next to a metro. I used to stop there a lot before the movies.
Cleveland Park is kind of a foot-traffic no-man's-land. It's on a subway line, but there's enough parking that people will drive there. Further, no one just kind of ends up in Cleveland Park. I'd imagine that Starbucks is largely dependent on people just happening by (hence the continuing operation of the National Zoo location).
Really? the Georgetown store closed? That one always seemed to do a good business with the tourists and shoppers.
Oh I guess I was thinking of the one closer to Wisconsin on M, which is still open I think... never mind.
Odd that they'd close the Cleveland Park location so soon after the closing of Foster Bros., their only real competition. I've never been in that Starbucks when a seat has been available. There was some speculation they might even expand into the newly vacated store next door.
Now Cleveland Park only has a single coffee shop - Firehook. This clearly isn't enough to service even the locals. And it's not open late.
oh shit! now people might have to just make their coffee at home.
naw, i'm kiddin!
this really does suck for us folks that just wanna cuppa joe.
Make your own coffee? Are you kidding? That's dangerous. You could fall down or something. That premium price you're paying is to ensure a professionally trained coffee maker, or "barista," takes all the risk so you don't have to. Like lion taming, dildo sharpening, and sex, making coffee is definitely something you don't want to try at home. For your own safety, please hire a professional.

The closing of the one in Cleveland Park is pretty surprising! There used to be, in addition to Foster Brothers, a Quartermaine Coffee place - and now it's down to just Firehook which is primarily a food place and bakery. Maybe the rent was super-high? It always seemed crowded to me.
The Starbucks near the Uptown always seemed to be packed full of people. Seems to be a good opportunity for some local entrepeneur to open up a coffee house with very little area competition.
3301 m st. closed a long time ago... a water main in the street broke and flooded out the entire place (i heard 4 feet of water).
the one between 31st and wisconsin is still booming, as always...
Back when Starbucks used to have live music I once had a gig at the Dupont Circle Starbucks. I was almost late because I went to the wrong one. I think there were two, both on Conn. Ave. I can't remember if that was before or after Best in Show came out.
