Amtrak and MARC Penn Line service has been suspended between Baltimore and D.C. since 7:45 a.m., thanks to a major water main break affecting tracks between the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and Baltimore Penn stations. Amtrak reports that tracks in the area are covered with mud, trees and other debris. Service restoration is not expected until at least noon today, and could be hours later. There's literally no alternative rail service between the two cities, so if you had plans to travel north from D.C. via train this morning, you ought to look into a bus. You can call 800-USA-RAIL for train status updates later in the day.

Does not the MARC Camden line counts as a rail service between DC and Baltimore?
The Camden line should be relatively unscathed, aside from a crush of passengers if this takes longer to clean up....
The Camden Line only runs during rush hour, I believe, so it's only an alternative if you don't mind waiting until the afternoon to get where you're going.
Maybe now Amtrack will get around to dealing with the tribes of hobo mud men that have been plagueing the Penn Line for years. It's just a matter of time before the Camden line falls to these barbarians.
Camden line is open (I took it this morning), runs mostly during rush hour. Usual schedule is here:

Also it seems that MARC is operating a shuttle bus between Odenton & Baltimore to get around the mudslide issue. Travel safe & good luck!

not
Actually, there are three direct transit alternatives:
1. As mentioned above, take the Camden Line. Take the light rail from Camden Station to Penn Station, if you're continuing north of Baltimore.
2. Take the B30 bus from Greenbelt Metro to BWI airport. Take the light rail from BWI to Baltimore Penn Station, if you're continuing north of Baltimore.
3. Assuming trains are still running on the Penn Line to BWI, take the train to BWI then the shuttle bus to the terminal. Again, take the light rail from BWI to Baltimore Penn Station, if you're continuing north of Baltimore.
There are other options, such as going through Annapolis, but these are the easiest.
