CINCO DE MAYO: For those of you who like to use this holiday as an excuse to guzzle margaritas and fill up on chips and salsa, we'd probably recommend Metroing up to Downtown Silver Spring, where they'll be shutting down Ellsworth Dr. from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and filling the place up with mariachi bands. Austin Grill, natch, will be serving up drink specials both inside and outside in a Cinco de Mayo Beer Garden. If you prefer to stay inside the city, consider heading over to Chi Cha Lounge, where a silent auction/Cinco de Mayo fiesta will benefit the excellent Hope House, which helps kids whose parents are in prison. That runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

MUSIC: Tickets are still available to see Junior Boys tonight at Black Cat. Max Tundra opens. 8 p.m., $15.

DJ: DJs 2-Tone Jones and RBI celebrate Cinco de Mayo tonight with their "Latin Quarters" party at Almaz. Expect music from hip-hop's Latino luminaries: Big Pun, the Beatnuts, Cypress Hill, and Fat Joe. $5, 9 p.m.

TALK: Those of you with green thumbs will want to head to the S. Dillon Ripley Center, where at 6:45 p.m., author and heirloom vegetable grower Amy Goldman, along with WaPo gardening editor Adrian Higgins, will host a discussion titled, From Garden to Table: Eccentric Tomatoes and Heirloom Seeds. The pair will discuss "the glorious diversity of tomatoes and the growth of the heirloom seed preservation movement." $25.

MOVIE: The 48 Hour Film Project begins screening tonight at the AFI Silver. Completed short films will run at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. through Thursday, with the "Best Of" slated for Monday at 7 p.m.
