MUSIC: Longtime D.C. resident (though she now calls New York home) Alice Smith made a name for herself on her solo debut, For Lovers, Dreamers & Me. She'll be at the Birchmere with local rapper on the rise, Tabi Bonney. 7:30 p.m., $25.

MOVIES: The Korean Film Festival continues at the AFI, with a screening tonight of Christmas in August, Director Hur Jin-ho's tragic romance about a terminally ill shopkeeper who can't bear to reveal his condition to the meter maid he falls in love with during his final days. The film won four awards (including the top prize) at the 1998 Korean Film Awards. And since it's only 97 minutes and starts at 7 p.m., it'll be over in plenty of time to make it a double feature with the 9 p.m. screening of Planet of the Apes, Charlton Heston's classic science fiction adventure about a world lousy with damned dirty apes.

MUSIC: Scandinavians love their roaring progressive metal, and two of the more seasoned acts out of the Northern European region will be at the 9:30 Club. Opeth (from Sweden) and Enslaved (from Norway) also make a good argument for bringing your earplugs. 7 p.m., $25.

ART: Art Buzz opens its fifth installation of top local artists with an exhibition of six photographers tonight at Source Theatre. DJ Will Eastman provides the sounds, and there will be appetizers, cupcakes, and wine on hand. Proceeds benefit the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative's Arts for Every Student program. 6:30-9:30 p.m., $15.

MUSIC: Say what you will about their potty-mouthed name but after one song of the Holy Fuck's dizzying, syncopated rhythms and swirling synth arrangements tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel, see if you're not slack-jawed, wide-eyed, and whispering that very expletive. 8:30 p.m., $12.
