Logan Circle Clothing Store Posts Video of Robbery, Offers Reward

Logan Circle men's clothing and athletic store Universal Gear posted a surveillance video of a recent robbery in their store to YouTube, and they're offering a $500 reward to anyone who shares information leading to the arrest of one or more of the individuals involved.

In the video, you can plainly see a large group of eight to nine young men enter the store, located at 1529 14th St NW, and begin browsing. After about 30 seconds of piling clothes into their arms, the youths flee the store all at once, getting into a scuffle with two of the store's employees (one of whom is wielding some kind of a bat) along the way. All of the suspects get away.

The crime is remarkably similar to another recent group robbery at Rue 14, a women's boutique several blocks north on 14th Street. In that incident, a large group of young women entered the store together and stole multiple items of clothing before fleeing, leaving one person behind to assault the store manager.

pretty brazen. crazy how the group mentality can support activity like this.

and sad. it's hard to tell from the video, but some of the thieves look older than others. i still wonder where their parents are/were in raising them. my parents would have grounded/guilt-tripped me for the rest of my life if i even thought of stealing something.

it's even more sad when you think about where they are going after this. i mean, even if none of them are apprehended, what are the chances of them realizing this is not appropriate behavior and doing something worthwhile with themselves.

the suspects were arrested at Be Bar later that evening wearing their new togs

I've seen this stuff and restaurant take-over robberies spread around in California over the last few years. Scary stuff and if it's not stopped early, it leads to of copy cats. MPD needs to get out there and increase foot patrols. (Oh yeah, they don't do those... Well then never mind, we're screwed.)

Btw, last time I was in there Rue 14 sold men's clothes too.

Worthless, pathetic animals. Let's hope a chalk outline is in their future.

Oh noes, that civil war between the black community and the gay community that Barry predicted has begun! Damn you, marriage equality!!

"large group of eight to nine young men" Really? My grandmother used the same language to describe everybody lining up for a photo on prom night.

How about a "gang of eight to nine thugs"? That's a more accurate description.

the upshot of all of this is that groups of young black men are going to be watched with even more suspicion than usual every time they walk into a retail establishment in the city.

I hate stuff like this. I would have loved for a metal cage to come down, followed by a group tazing until the police came to give them 90 days to think about it in jail.
