Morning Roundup: Broken Record Edition

Good morning, Washington. Very few local headlines to start out the week apart from endless H1N1 stories, to which we're growing more than a little weary of linking. The Post, thankfully, squeezed all of the relevant D.C. area updates into one story, while the broadcast outlets and smaller papers opted to spread the swine flu news around.

In the meantime, we're getting a lot of emails from people asking us what was up with all the noisy motorcades early this morning around Thomas and Logan Circles. We confess we're still not entirely sure, although U Street Girl says she heard President Obama might have been headed to U Street this morning. We'll be sure to let you know if we get a more definitive answer. UPDATE: General consensus is that all the motorcades this morning were likely AIPAC conference related. Neither President nor Michelle Obama's public schedules indicate they were out and about the city today, but Israeli President Shimon Peres did head to the Washington Convention Center this morning.

Briefly Noted: Police believe body found in Potomac is Hau Nguyen ... Body found in wreckage of vehicle set afire overnight in Suitland ... Loudoun County experiments with zig-zag road markings to get drivers to slow down.

This Day in DCist: In 2007, a prominent D.C. spouse was jailed for walking his dog without a leash, and Stephen Colbert did a big Voting Rights segment.

Nasty, nasty commute this morning. 18th/I was blocked off with police tape and millions of police vehicles... Obama sighting or suspicious package?

It was a suspicious package. It is all clear now, but I guess there is still a lot of traffic.

I think it was a combination of suspicious packages, crappy weather, street improvements, and general idiocy that led to this morning's commute being an absolute, unmitigated disaster. I had to unleash several broadsides to get through it all..

Pres Obama definitely came through Adams Morgan this morning. They blocked traffic for 30 minutes, and made me late for work. :(

Traffic was a total clusterfunk this morning. Mass Ave was backed up for hundreds of miles; Connecticut Ave was the same thing. It totally gave me a bad case of the Mondays.

It is so easy to mock the segway tours, but I admit, it looks like fun.

Seems to me that the chief advantage to owning a Segway is that your average teenage thug would be incapable of stealing it and riding away. Kinda like how they don't steal cars with manual transmissions anymore.

Also, Segways are a total pu$$y magnet. Bi**hes be throwin it at you.

I knew there had to be another reason (to justify why) I drove a manual transmission. Sweet.

Perfect photo of one the reasons this menace must be stopped. See the guy trying to walk up 6th Street waiting for a long line of tourists on Segways. Just try to cut through them.

AIPAC is having a polich conference at the Convention Center. 9th Street was closed off at 8:30 when I walked by, apparently Shimon Peres was speaking at 9:00 AM.

I was walking the the 13th St entrance of the U St metro and Obama and his motorcade drive down U Street heading East.

I don't know it seems a little strange that my block, at 12th and U, and all of U street, was blockaded by cops for the Israeli president being over a mile away at the Convention Center. Seems like something else was going on.
