Bruuuuutal. TicketsNow.com, the resale company owned by Ticketmaster, oversold the upcoming Bruce Springsteen concert at the Verizon Center, WTOP's Mark Segraves reports. The company is in the middle of contacting customers who thought they had awesome seats to the show and letting them know that their dream night with the Boss won't come true. TicketsNow is giving refunds, and some customers are also being offered free tickets in the nosebleed section. The concert is set for Monday, May 18; only the D.C. Springsteen show reportedly saw the overselling problem.

United Airlines is running the ticket sales for the Springsteen concert?
Wow. Hopefully the free nosebleed seats work out for those who got screwed... as long as they don't give them MY nosebleed seats.
fitting, since Springsteen is overrated.
C'mon, McGillicuddy. Tramps like us, baby, we were born to run.
It is a runaway American Dream.
Come on now, try and understand. The way I feel when I'm in your hands. Take me now as the sun descends.
They cant hurt you now, they cant hurt you now, they cant hurt you now-ow-ow-ow-ow.
Saying things are overrated is overrated.
Soooooo, was Ticketmaster in charge of the Inaugural tickets too? Hey, at least Fandango works. For now.
remember, economies of scale (like ticket brokering) always help out the consumer in the end.
HA!
In all fairness (and as someone who attends 60+ concerts a year I'm one of the biggest haters of TicketsNow on the planet), it's actually the individuals selling their tickets on TicketsNow whose fault this is.
The same thing happened for the Phish reunion shows in March...scalpers assume that they'll wind up with tickets to sell because they usually don't have trouble getting them, sell them off in advance under this assumption, and then are surprised when they can't get their hands on the number they've already promised to sell.
Legal intervention is needed to stop ticket scalping completely.
How does this create an oversold situation? The same number of real tickets are sold. If the scalpers never get the tickets, then it's an issue between the ticket buyer and seller, not Ticketmaster. Maybe I'm not understanding how TicketsNow comes into this, but what you are describing is a matter of fraud, not an oversold scenario.
There really is no excuse for this to ever happen. Airlines get oversold by policy, not by accident. If Ticketmaster is doing the same, then obviously that needs to stop.
You're correct in that it's a combination of "oversold" (which is not the word I would have used) and fraud. It wasn't oversold by the primary ticket selling agent (TicketMaster), but by third party ticket brokers.
whoa, that was in response to krisa...not sure how it ended up under jeff's comment
why don't they just add Springsteen to the Billy Joel/Elton John - Monsters of the Geriatric Ward show?
I should be mad... I should be livid-- crying, screaming and stomping and throwing things. But I'm not. At this point, I'm just weary, sad, and disappointed.
I was one of the thousands shut out during the initial sale because I refused to cater to fucking ticketsnow and stoop to that level. I am one of the thousands now scouring craigslist, ebay, and btx daily, hourly, minutely, praying to find tickets, begging scammers, whining to scalpers and basically making a fool of myself to the assholes who manages to grab up hundreds of tickets at the initial onsale date only to take advantage of morons like me.
I'm a poor college student. I'm not going to pay $800 for a ticket to get into this concert. I'd like to, but I can't. I'm not going to try to invite my best friends who KNOW how much I love springsteen, and want to see for themselves what a show is all hyped up about, and then tell them-- "PS, this ticket costs $400. Sorry."
My university ended classes two weeks ago. I stayed in town for 3 weeks on the off chance that I MIGHT be able to attend this show.
But at this point, I'm just at a loss for words and a loss for action. I keep praying something will happen, but shit like this keeps happening and it doesn't even surprise or anger me anymore.
So is life. Fuck ticketmaster. Will someone, anyone, please do something? I cannot believe that this blatant disregard for TOS and this ridiculous monopoly has gone unchecked for so long.
You walked into a Tenth Avenue Freeze Out!
There are people under 40 who enjoy this? Must be from Jersey.
