Yesterday we reported that after an acrimonious debate, on Monday the Ward 5 Democrats voted 87-51 against endorsing any plans to legalize same-sex marriage in the District. The vote followed in the wake of the Ward 8 Democrats weekend vote in favor same-sex marriage. Yesterday, the Ward 6 Democrats chimed in, overwhelmingly siding with marriage equality in a 73-3 vote. Charles Allen, president of the Ward 6 Democrats and Chief of Staff to Council member Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), said in a press release, “Equal and full civil rights are core principles of the Democratic Party and that was affirmed again tonight by the Ward 6 Democrats." The Democratic committees of Ward 2 and Ward 4 have also voted to support marriage equality.

One thing that worked in Charles' favor versus the other meetings was that he allowed only one speaker in support and one in opposition to the resolution. No free-for-all, no shouting, just introduction of the resolution, brief statements, then voting. I thought the meeting went very well.
So are Ward 1 Dems assumed to be in support or is their vote scheduled for next week?
And also what about Wards 3 & 7?
2-4-6-8 Who do we appreciate?
HAHA! Yes 2-4-6-8 indeed! I am one block away from Ward 6, maybe I should move :-) Alas, it sounds like Ward 6 leadership had thier shit together, which was not true of Ward 5 leadership. Ward 5 was an embarassment to the democrat party; but I've alerady said my peace with that...
it's funny, but i think most democrats would prefer you call our party the democratic party, not the democrat party. you sound like sean hannity calling it that.
