Al Franken Looks to Be Headed to Washington

Al Franken
Comedian, radio talk show host, and now it seems after all this time, United States Senator. The Minnesota Supreme Court today declared Democrat Al Franken the winner of his U.S. Senate race against Republican Norm Coleman.

The decision appears to finally clear the way for the Senate to seat Franken, concluding a protracted legal battle over the outcome of an incredibly tight race. Should Franken join the Senate, the Democrats would also gain a 60-seat majority, making much of the party's agenda filibuster-proof.

We're also certainly curious to see how Franken's previous career as an entertainer might affect his comings and going around Washington - would you be excited to bump into him at a restaurant? Plenty of actors have served in the chamber, including former presidential candidate Fred Thompson.

I hear he doesn't leash his dog or scoop its poop when he walks it to the Whole Foods.

Quick Ed.
I was going to say let's hope he doesn't get tied to a post outside of Whole Foods and get nabbed.

Agreed, the only way he could make news in DC is if he tied his dog up at Whole Foods, rode away on his bicycle, got hit by a MD driver, and ended up at Wonderland vying for a spot on Top Chef, or a cameo on the Real World, and started gentrifying the hell of out things.

Fred Thompson was an actor?

Who? Can he play center field?

Nah, but he *did* spend some time in the Cincinnati Reds' farm system...

I bumped into him on a plane in February and it was only moderately exciting.

Some court ruling. No punch line.

Jim Graham's a Senator now? When did that happen? And when did he get hair plugs?

Oh my, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy...and Minnesota is RIGHT up there on that list. Right after Mexican jumping beans.

You think Mexican jumping beans are bad, try the Salvadoran beans sometime. The MS-13 variety is lethal.

And Coleman conceded so it's finally over! Yay!

Great. We're sure to get the vote now. I'll add him to my speed dial for those pesky constituent service issues right after I knock back another gin and tonic at the Fox.

I used to think he had some funny moments on SNL. Now he is just a pompous jerk, a la Janeane Garafalo.

"Now he is just a pompous jerk"

Which makes him eminently qualified for the Senate, no?
