  • For a less exalted assessment of the proceedings, try Tim Craig. The bottom line: Jack Evans lost his bid to enact so-called "civil gang injunctions," while Phil Mendelson's more conservative emergency crime bill, which focuses on stiffer penalties for certain gun crimes, committing crimes with stolen cars, and chronic offenders, passed, and now goes into effect for 90 days of summer. Oh yeah, and no curfew. [WaPo]

In the future, if you're wondering, "Crime, boy, I don't know," is when I decided to kick your ass.

Where's the like button on this thing?

So Sen. Ensign is having an extramarital affair. While I hope it's with a dude, that's besides the point. We need to hit them while they're distracted. Martin, to the ramparts!

EXCELLENT West Wing reference. Maybe one of the best scenes of the series.

Here's the pair i'm pretty sure is involved in the ensign case - http://www.lvrj.com/news/8517122.html

Just when I thought I couldn't love DCist more (after this), y'all go and pull a Bartlet. Or is that considered a Sorkin? Either way, I'm off to pull that box set off the shelf and fire up the DVD player ...

This may be the first time ever that a Phil Mendelson bill is described as "more conservative".

Folks in Shaw and LeDroit Park suffered a 6-8 hour blackout last night.

That must have been some awesome party, dudes!

I love the West Wing! I got the complete series box set for my Christmas and have been watching it over and over ever since.

Best. Headline. Ever. Or at least so far this week.

"Phil Mendelson's more conservative emergency crime bill"

Most Misleading Turn of Phrase Ever.

As Councilmember Bowser said, "Mendelson’s crime bill simply creates an illusion that decisive action is being taken. In reality, however, this legislation offers no meaningful tools against gangs. Councilmembers Jack Evans and David Catania joined me in opposition to the bill."

Mendelson's like some sort of panty-waisted caricature of liberal namby-pambyism from a Charles Bronson movie. I'd like to see someone give him an Atomic Wedgie followed by a Nuclear Swirly-Whirly, followed by a swift kick up the arse.

And I'm a "liberal".
