You may have noticed that DCist has a brand new mobile version, working as of this weekend on the iPhone, the BlackBerry (or if you're like me, the really old, crappy Sidekick), and most every other mobile device. All you have to do is access DCist.com from your mobile device and you'll be redirected (or you can go straight to mobile.dcist.com). There you'll find a tinier and tidier version of DCist that's optimized for your smaller screen. Let us know how it's working in the comments.

Much better! Am replying from an iPhone.
Awesome! Now I really can't wait to get my new iPhone later this month.
Woohoo, no more endless double-tapping!
Can y'all design a Chumby widget pretty pleaseeeeeeee?
I am confused or maybe it is a twin cities thing. Is this DCist or Mobile, Alabama ist?
Wow. This is actually pretty friggin usable. I can now DOUBLE the number of postings I make during the average dump. Thanks, dcist!
Although, shouldn't the full page reload after submitting a comment? All I'm getting is the comment on a blank screen, like when the graphics choke on the full website. You have to hit the previous page arrow to reload the page.
Thanks, I plan on fixing that tonight. It should reload in place like the normal site does.
Still can't comment on a Palm
Which Palm?

Looks great! Much more usable.
Yay! Looks great!

Ok, commenting should keep you on the entry page now!
Maybe it's because I live in Europe but I kept getting the Mobil layout on my laptop. After a few unsuccesful clicks of the view full layout (or whatever it says) I finally got the regular layout to appear.
Just thought I'd share...
And by "Mobil" of course I meant "Mobile."
I'm using a CrackBerry Curve and while it loads nicely and is actually usable all of the lines of text on the main page are one big link to the story. Is it like that for everyone? It's kind of annoying but I guess I could get used to it.
The same thing happened to me ... just a bunch of huge blue links.
On the Storm, no text on the headline portion of a story on the main page highlights when you press (without fully pressing down) on the screen like links are supposed to on the Storm. But, the links do work. This means that because the Curve renders the web differently than the Storm, Bold, 8900 Curve, etc., the old Curve will actually show all of the front page text as one link while the Storm acts in the same way, with the major exception that the Storm and other new BBs won't *show* them as hyperlinks (cleaner), but just as clickable space.
Yes, I can't comment on the Storm as there's no place to log myself in on the new site. Otherwise, the site looks sweet and much easier to read. Load time is slightly faster, which I'll take :)
Great move. A few notes:
- surprisingly slow on iPhone 3G perfect signal (updating from computer now because finding the log-in and posting was going to take forever)
- fonts are not sizeable and are very tiny (not good for those with less-than-flawless eye sight; please allow font re-sizing or a larger size option)
- a few pages showed images too large for the column so spacing was thrown off
For a GOOD example of iPhone web implementation, visit:
www.mustangdaily.net on your iPhone... now THAT is a good iPhone-compatible news site!!!
I can read the entries and see photos more easily on my Sanyo Katana Eclipse X, but I am unable to click on a headline to read the whole story. I was able to click on the photo gallery for Dirty Projects & TVOTR. Does DCist have plans to make their mobile site compatable with all 3G network phones, not just crackberries, palms, and iphones?
How does dcist determine if a device is mobile? IP address? When I view dcist on any non-mobile device at home, I am redirected to the mobile site. How can I make this stop? My home IP address is DHCP assigned by Comcast.
