So Many Browns

My local political prayers are being answered. It was just last week that I got giddy thinking of the potential mayoral match-up of Council member Kwame Brown (D-At Large), Council member Michael A. Brown (I-At Large) and Mayor Adrian Fenty. Well, it may just have gotten even more Brown-y. D.C. Wire is reporting that former Fenty campaign staffer Sulaimon Brown has officially announced he'll be challenging the mayor in 2010. If everything comes together as we all hope it does, we're looking not at one Brown, not two -- but three of them taking on Fenty. What are the chances of that? And which of the candidates is already regretting printing thousands of generic "Brown for Mayor!" campaign signs now?

Is it weird that the first thing I thought of here was Eddie Murphy's The Distinguished Gentleman?

Brown. The Name You Know.

Does anyone know what the rapper Charlie Brown from Leaders of the New School is up to these days? (Come on, say it with me: Inside outside come around... Who's that? Browwwwwwwwn!)

After parking illegally in front of my house in his black H2 Hummer with "At Large Councilmember" plates, Michael Brown noticed me giving him the stink eye through my storm door. He proceeded up to my door where we chatted about Brown vs. Brown vs. Brown vs. Fenty in 2010 (his sly attempt at misdirecting me away from the fact that he, uhh, parked illegally in front of my house).

When he introduced himself as "Councilman Brown", admittedly I replied, "Which Brown?". Needless to say, when I asked him about the third brown (Sulaimon), Michael Brown said, "I don't really know that guy. I think he's just some crazy crackhead from what I hear." And proceeded, "We'll be making a decision in the next 4 or 5 months, but for right now, I'm just trying to be a good councilmember."

From there, it was chit chat about "the shooting" and the traffic it caused. I asked him if he was here to watch the game (this was 6:55 and Nationals Park is at arms-length to me). He told me, "Not this time. I have to read a proposition, then run over to another event at Logan Circle". And that was that.

He may or may not have my vote depending on whether he gets a ticket on his car or not. My street gets the MPD/Parking Enforcement treatment on game nights. A stadium employee received 3 parking tickets between 6:00pm and just before 11:00pm one game night. Hilarious.
