Thinking about driving around the Mall tomorrow? Uh, I'd think real, real hard about that one: tomorrow is the D.C. stop on the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series tour. (Try saying that five times fast.) There's a boatload of closures around the race course in the downtown area, including many major entrances into and exits out of D.C., such as the Whitehurst Freeway, Clara Barton Parkway, Rock Creek Parkway, and Maine Avenue off the Southeast and Southwest Freeways.
Most of these traffic snarls-to-be go into effect early tomorrow morning, beginning at 5 a.m. Rolling openings means that some will reopen around noon, others later in the afternoon -- but we'd avoid the area by vehicle until much later in the day, if possible.
Check out the full list of closings here, or take a quick peek at our map above for a general idea of the closings.
[Ed. note: It appears as if Google Maps is having a bit of a glitch in correctly saving our map -- we've attached a jpeg version of the map until an interactive one becomes available.]

Car Pushed Into Anacostia River By Train

Well that's F**KTACO great! I'm south of that red line rubbish which means my fat ass is stuck at home tomorrow.
how the f*** are you supposed to get to I-66 from DC?
I had to do just that this morning, coming down through the city from Takoma Park. After some annoying meandering through downtown, I was able to go south on 19th Street all the way to Constitution, take a right, and head right on to the 66 on-ramp. I think the red line on Constitution on the above map goes a little bit further west than it needs to.
So, there's really no way for families with members in DC and VA to get together on Fathers' Day w/o driving all the way around the city? They couldn't have left one goddamn bridge open?
Memorial Bridge is open, just sort of a pain in the ass to get to, depending on where you're coming from.
Yesterday, I went to the hockey fields near the mall and had a really difficult time because of the road closures. Does anyone know what rules/regulations there are about street closures of this extent? Do the organizers have to pay fees to the city the compensate for the huge inconvenience to residents? I have run into road closures downtown on a regular basis. Is there any limit on how many times the city will allow this? I think the people planning these things sometimes forget that people live here who are trying to go about their business. I'm ok with being inconvenienced occasionally, but what happened yesterday and the frequency of road closures is ridiculous.
I disagree. The people responsible for these road closures are fully aware that people live and work in DC. They just don't care.
