HBO dancers, get those moneymakers ready for shaking. Reports of the demise of Screen on the Green have been greatly exaggerated, and the outdoor film series has officially been brought back from the brink of extinction. HBO has just announced that Screen on the Green on the green WILL RETURN this summer.

Comcast and the Trust for the National Mall have come on board along with HBO to sponsor the event.

“We are so thrilled that Comcast and The Trust for the National Mall made possible this year’s return of a beloved Washington, D.C. tradition that presents some of the greatest timeless films on a big screen under the stars. We’re so proud to join with them in celebrating this unique event’s 10th Anniversary,” said Richard Plepler, Co-President of HBO, in a statement.

Representatives from HBO and Comcast cited the enormous grassroots efforts on the internet as a big reason for their new (and renewed) commitment to restoring the event.

This year's series will be slightly truncated from its usual five films to four, owing to the last minute organizing, and movies will screen every Monday from July 20 until August 10, starting with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The rest of the roster is yet to be announced, but the Post reports that they may borrow titles from the New York version of SotG, including Dog Day Afternoon and Rebel Without a Cause.

YAY! We can continue to sweat our asses off on the Mall! WTF the shrinkage in films though? I thought shrinkage was usually due to cold not hot... bahaha.

I'm only going if they show C.H.U.D. II - Bud the Chud.

Cool beans. I'll bring my retarded monkey and Jujyfruits.

Wait, but Comcast are such loathsome pandering slime to their customers that I don't *want* them to do something nice for me.

Well if their sponsorship of SotG mirrors their "comcastic" cable service, the movie will probably cut out halfway through anyway.

Hey everyone! What movies would YOU like to see?

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Let's dance!

This is all kinds of awesome.
