Super Fun Monday Morning Orange/Blue Line Delays!

Count yourselves lucky if you don't come into the city via the Orange or Blue lines through Rosslyn. Metro is reporting a train experiencing mechanical difficulties outside the Foggy Bottom station, causing Orange and Blue line trains to share the same track all the way between Clarendon and Farragut West. We're being told to expect delays in both directions as of 8:19 a.m., which, given the usual congestion in that area at this time of the morning, we can imagine will be pretty craptastic. Good luck out there, commuters.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Metro. At least it is a downed train and not a track fire. They can move a train.

Eventually.

It wasn't too bad. I was stuck at Clarendon for about 15 mins. And it was stop n' go for a while, but I still got to work relatively on time. As far as metro delays go, it could've been worse.

It was a mess at Rosslyn - although its conceivable that I arrived at the peak of the mess. They had just stopped running trains and an orange line train held there about 15 min, during which I did not see a single blue or orange line train on either platform/either direction.

With the promise of single-tracking to follow, and with a dense crowd forming on the platform, I saw the writing on the wall and left the station to find a cab into town.

Plus 10-15 minute delays on the Yellow Line in Virginia due to a train with mechanical difficulties.

And I was so proud of myself for getting my butt out of bed early enough to work out, walk my dog, and be on time to work instead of my usual 15 minutes late. Thanks to the orange/blue line I was still 15 minutes late to work.

I was unfortunate enough to be on the train that had the malfunction. For those folks who only had 15 minute delays, count yourself lucky. We sat in that tunnel--not moving--for 35 minutes. Once we got to Foggy Bottom, the train had to, of course, be offloaded. The train behind the malfunctioning one also had to be offloaded because it was the "rescue train". Not sure what that means, exactly, but I think it was pushing us forward and therefore had to finish pushing the train out of the way.

My commute started at 7:25 when I walked out my door and I didn't get to work until 9:30. It usually only takes me 45 minutes to get from Arlington to Van Ness.

Happy Monday!

thank you orange line. i owe you my deepest gratitude for making me late to work for the first day of the past three weeks. why i ever broke up with the blue line and came back to you i will never know. now i am plotting to ditch you again and this time i will never come crawling back to you. it's over between us!

i just resumed my relationship with the orange line after living within walking distance to work for the past year...thanks for the Awesome welcome back gift.

Benefit of being an unemployed architect # 16- NOT having to take the Orange Line to Foggy Bottom only to make the schlep to Georgetown. I love it!
