Thursday:
>> Fertile Ground has built a substantial following worldwide with several well-received albums. The Baltimore-based band will focus their attention (and playlist) of their show at the 9:30 Club on their 2000 release, Spiritual War. $18, 7:00 p.m.

>> They might represent three different cities ,but they share the same desire to push musical boundaries. Peter Hadar (NYC), Black Spade (St. Louis, pictured) and Wes Felton (D.C.) will be performing at Bohemian Caverns as a part of the HipHopSoulBrothers show. $12 in advance/$15, 7:30 p.m.

Friday:
>> DJ Dredd will revive the golden era hip-hop for one night during "Close 2 the Edge" at the Black Cat. $7, 9 p.m.

>> Deep Sang and Ed Dudes team up for a night of house and disco at the Rock & Roll Hotel's Hotel Bar. Free, 9:30 p.m.

>> Once again, the Black Light Special party will take place at Selam (1524 U Street NW) with DJ Underdog spinning Afrobeat on vinyl. $1, 10 p.m.

Saturday:
>> The most well-known offspring of Afrobeat legend Fela, Femi Kuti will be at the 9:30 Club. $30, 8 p.m.

Sunday:
>> The "Soul Sista Serenade" show will feature three of independent soul's biggest names: Sy Smith, Conya Doss and Maya Azucena. They'll all be at the Birchmere along with the night's mistress of ceremonies, Yahzarah. $29.50, 7:30 p.m.
