Two people were shot just south of New York Avenue Park earlier this evening. Details are still trickling in, but the shooting took place just before 5 p.m. at 1st and M Streets NW. No word on the condition of the two victims or whether any suspects are in custody. Today's incident comes on the heels of multiple shootings about eight blocks north in Bloomingdale just a couple weeks ago. We'll update when we have more details.

M Street is about 5 blocks south of Bloomingdale. A couple of weeks ago you also threw the Bloomingdale label on the North Capitol shooting, most of which occurred on the East side of the street, which would make it Eckington. Today's shooting was on the border of Truxton Circle and NoMa.

Because initial reports we got of the shooting put it farther north than where it really happened before I was able to confirm the location ... I've fixed the label to avoid any confusion, but the text of the post remains the same.
I knew I heard gunshots yesterday! I was walking my dog on M between 4th and 5th and heard around 8-10 shots followed by 2 more a few seconds later.Cop cars started flying down NY Ave about a minute later.Is anyone besides DCist reporting this? WTF.
