This year's Virgin Mobile Festival's plan to give out tickets for free worked like a charm. The concert's organizers say 35,000 free tickets were gobbled up in minutes when they went on "sale" this weekend.
If you had your heart set on seeing Public Enemy, Girl Talk, Wale, The National and St. Vincent on August 30 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, but didn't get a ticket in time, there's still a way for you to get in: volunteer. The Re*Generation Free I.P. program is giving out tickets in exchange for time devoted to community service at designated homeless youth shelters around the country.
The Virgin Mobile Freefest site is the organizing point for local volunteer activity in the DMV. Select homeless youth organizations have been aggregated together to accommodate volunteers. You'll need to sign up to volunteer 13 hours in exchange for one Free I.P. ticket. This offer is good while supplies last, as there are a limited number of tickets still available. Volunteers can also participate in broader community service projects offered by Howard County for a general admission ticket.

so, riddle me this: are they going to do anything with the people on craigslist scalping them for $50, $75 or more?
i am not going but i found it interesting to see these tickets being resold for profit.
regarding the Free I.P. volunteer program:
1) "Only the first 230 participants who earn a minimum of 13 hours by volunteering and/or submitting service kits will receive a VIP ticket to attend the Virgin Mobile FreeFest."
2) the times to volunteer are mostly M-F 9-5. so if you have a job, forget it. unless of course you wanted to take vacation on at least two days to volunteer for a "free" ticket.

This is complete PR bull! If you have to do something for the tickets then they are not free!
Virgin should be concentrating on keeping their existing customers which they are neglecting. I heard there is this new plan from Virgin - $10 for 120 minutes - but only available to LOW INCOME users? What the heck?! So I'm now subsidizing other people's phones! No way, I work hard for my money. If they are making so much money that they can do this, why aren't they passing the savings on to me?
