Clues
>> Don't let DC9's web site confuse you: the intriguing (super)group made up of former members of Unicorns and Arcade Fire are called Clues, not YOUTUBE (though, that wouldn't be a bad band name either). Give their single "Haarp" a spin over here, and check them out as the headliners of a four-band bill tonight at DC9. $8/$10, 8:30 p.m.
>> DC9's offering an equally intriguing way to spend your Monday night downstairs. SMS Trivia is different than your standard trivia nights, because you text your answers in. Could be revolutionary, or infuriating. Free, 7 p.m.
>> As the Velvet Lounge so emphatically points out, Father Murphy are from Italy! They're noisey and sparse and probably just about what you'd amble into the Velvet Lounge for on a Monday night. With the much more local Echolalia, from Falls Church.
TUESDAY
>> What's more surprising: that Better Than Ezra are touring this summer, or that their show at the 9:30 Club has long been sold out?
>> Mark Charles Heidinger is a DCist favorite in any incarnation. This week his main solo-act, Vandaveer, plays DC9. When he plays live, he's usually joined by Rose, whose voice is so lovely it'll give you sweet dreams for days. $8/$10, 8:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> If you like your electronica packed with feminism and sexuality, then you probably already have tickets to see Peaches at the 9:30. This won't be a show you'll soon forget. Late show -- 10 p.m., $20.
>> If you like the solo efforts of Brendan Benson or Aqueduct, you'll probably take a liking to Seattle's Telekinesis. Michael Benjamin Lerner records solo under the moniker Telekinesis, but he's joined on tour by a few other performers. At the Black Cat with An Horse. $10, 9 p.m.
>> The Plain White T's are probably best known for last summer's inescapable earworm, "Hey There Delilah." They're playing the 9:30 Club's early show this Wednesday and I really don't have much else to say about the band or their music. However, they have made several appearances on the TV show "Greek," which I adore, because it's delightfully sort of Freaks & Geeks-y. So for that small slice of reverence, I'll suggest that this wouldn't be an entirely misspent evening. And that you should all watch Greek. $18, 5:30 p.m.
Metric
>> For reasons I can't quite figure out, Canadian synthy indie rockers Metric seem to have made far more fans out of the men that I know than the women. I find them mildly enjoyable but unremarkable, whereas they've rocketed to awesome status among a lot of my male friends. With no obvious testosterone-baiting aggression, there doesn't seem to be a clear reason why. Are attractive female lead singers that powerful? You be the judge, as they visit the District this week in support of their most recent release, Fantasies. 9:30 Club, 7:30 p.m., sold out.
>> I can't say that the phrase "battle of the law firm bands" sent my heart racing in anticipation. But it's a fun idea, and for a good cause -- the show is raising money for Gifts for the Homeless. Members of some of the area's big law firms (and lord knows we've got a few) compete for the sixth year in a row. $10, 7 p.m. at the Black Cat.
>> Mama Digdown’s Brass Band will prove that a Wisconsin combo can play New Orleans funk when they appear with locals Little Red & the Renegades at the Surf Club, 4711 Kenilworth Avenue, Hyattsville MD.
>> The NPR All Songs Considered blog ranked The Antlers' Hospice amongst 2009's best albums so far. Because if there's anything bloggers like more than making lists, it's making lists prematurely. At any rate, it is an excellent offering and should make for a great show this week at Iota. 9 p.m., $12
FRIDAY
>> Natalie Portman's Shaved Head continue their June residency at Liberation Dance Party this week. Their brand of electro pop will certainly fit in seamlessly with DC9's weekly indie dance party. $8; open bar (rail drinks) 9-10:30 p.m.
SATURDAY
>> DUDE! FRODUS! Post-hardcore hasn't sounded so good since the legendary D.C. band called it quits. They're getting together for a handful of reunion shows this summer, and if you know what's good for you, you'll be at the Black Cat on Saturday night. $13, 9 p.m.
>> A $10 ticket? "Outcasts United" - Is this a book reading? The Fugees?? Saturday afternoon's listing at the 9:30 Club left us with a lot of questions. As it turns out, this is a fundraiser for Fugees Family, a non-profit that provides educational and sports programming for resettled refugees here in the U.S. "Outcasts United" tells the story of a youth soccer team of Congolese refugees in Clarkston, Georgia - the inspiration for the foundation. Helping raise money are Chopteeth, D.C.'s premiere Afrobeat band, and soccer freestyle entertainers Futboleros. And no, Wyclef and Lauryn Hill have don't have anything to do with this event. Bring a soccer ball to take part in the juggling lessons. Noon.
>> Samba Mapangala, a warm-voiced Congolese vocalist and bandleader, moved eastward to Kenya and then to D.C. He will be singing over the high-pitched, speedy guitar and insistent rhythmic bottom of his ensemble Virunga for free from 6 to 7 (and webcast) at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. Also, we're pretty sure this marks the first time the word "Congolese" has been used twice in one Weekly Music Agenda.
>> Happy birthday, TAINT! The queer dance night to end all queer dance nights celebrates five years of getting you to dance your pants off this weekend at DC9.
SUNDAY
>> If you didn't get tickets to see Phoneix at the Rock & Roll Hotel, you're probably S.O.L. According to the venue's site, the show is "COMPLETELY SOLD OUT." So don't get any big ideas.

Car Pushed Into Anacostia River By Train

Also, note Girl in a Coma and Miss Derringer at the Red and the Black on Tuesday.
More importantly, Frodus is fine and all, but they will be joined byn the newly reunited THE VAN PELT, to prove that Chis Leo is in fact the more talented Leo brother. Yeah, I said it.
rockin' with Dokken
No love for Matt and Kim? They're playing Rock & Roll Hotel with Major Lazer on Saturday night...gonna be ridiculously packed.
International disco-pop from Los Amigos Invisibles at the 930 Club Saturday night, and indie-pop Sunday at the same place with Camera Obscura
That dude in the top-center photo is a girl.
Who said it was a dude other than you, though? Or are you just showing off your 1337 gender identification skillz?
