Saturday was National HIV Testing Day, and as part of the national effort to get out the message to take an HIV test regularly, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty taped this PSA with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
Here's the transcript for the spot:
Sebelius: I'm Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.It's good to see the mayor taking part in efforts like this -- if anything, it's long overdue.Fenty: And I'm Adrian Fenty, the Mayor of Washington DC.
Sebelius: Every nine and a half minutes someone in the U.S. becomes infected with HIV.
Fenty: To find a testing site near you, text your ZIP code to "KNOWIT" - that's "5-6-6-9-4-8" - or visit HIVtest.org.

Neither did I. But if a tawdry affair is what it takes for them to finally get tested, maybe we can see some good come from this.
Didn't that woman used to be the monarch of some minor landlocked province? And now she's a secretary. Apparently that doesn't pay enough, so she's reduced to peddling HIV on the TV. Boy, times are tough.

it's also interesting to note that fenty said "dc" instead of "district of columbia," as he almost always does.
I'm still trying to understand these figures. The 2009 DC AIDS infection rate is 3 percent. That's the documented rate that doesn't count people infected but unreported, which is more like 5 percent. The rate for Black males is closer to 7 percent.
But the AIDS infection rate in 2006 was...still 3 percent. So there's essentially been no chage in three years. WTF has the District been doing in those 3 years?
