- Despite attempts by the D.C. Council to kick the press corps out of their meeting this afternoon, it looks like they eventually got in and are reporting that Robert Bennett, the former Bill Clinton attorney, will lead an independent, pro-bono investigation into Marion Barry's contract with Donna Watts-Brighthaupt.
- And more from the City Paper on the Barry saga: Watts-Brighthaupt explains more about the work she wanted to do for the Ward 8 Council member, and why she wasn't taken seriously by his office.
- New vintage clothing store Treasury, located at 14th and T Streets NW, is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday.
- Reports of cyclists getting tickets for blowing past stop signs on Columbia Road this morning.
- Some Shaw residents are trying to get the billboards at New Jersey Ave. and P Street removed.
- The New York Times is considering charging online readers $5 per month for access to their stories. Would you pay that much? How about to read The Washington Post?

Bennett, huh? Unless the city's getting the friends and family discount, that's gotta be something like $900 or $950 an hour. Doesn't the city have an independent inspector general that could do this sort of thing?
Sommer stated that Bennett will be working pro bono.
D'oh! EPIC FAIL!
(1) Cool photo. Second time I've seen it today (earlier at prince of petworth).
(2) Thank god someone is finally ticketing out of control bicyclists. I don't have a car, but as a pedestrian, have almost gotten hit a few times by cyclists who are just looking for cars and not people. They need to be more aware and recognize that the rules of the road apply to them as well.
I hope someone will be finally ticketing out of control automobile drivers. I don't have a car, but as a bicyclist, have almost gotten hit a few times by automobile drivers who are just looking for cars and not people or bicycles. They need to be more aware and recognize that the rules of the road apply to them as well as everyone else.
I agree with both points. Any out of control behaviors on the roads should be addressed and ticketed if necessary. This also applies to ticketing jaywalking pedestrians.
And litterers, don't forget litterers. Oh, and people who throw their chewing gum on the sidewalk. Police have got to step in and put a stop to that as well.
I can completely understand why people enjoy seeing cyclist get tickets for blowing through stop signs, but let's not pretend that anybody is going to be any safer because of it. The stats don't lie, obnoxious cyclists may be obnoxious, but they're incredibly safe. I know, I know, you have personal experience that contradict me, but the fact of the matter is cyclists almost never cause accidents and they almost never get hurt themselves. They may infuriate you, but it has nothing to do with them being dangerous.
Driving in my car today I saw bicyclists and pedestrians. But, more to the point, I realized I have forgotten to point out Marion Barry is a Retarded Monkey.
Robert Bennett is working pro boner?
Oh, right. Clinton's lawyer.
Robert Bennett will likely need to sleep with Watts-Brighthaupt to determine whether she was capable of meeting the terms of the contract. In fact, he may need to sleep with all of Barry's exes in order to make sure the competitive bidding process was conducted fairly. Pro boner indeed.
i'd pay $10 a month for the times, and just to see those aggregators making money and not paying their own staff fail. worth twice that a month just to get sourced original reporting.
