Click Click: J Dilla Tribute @ Liv

Last night Liv played host to some of D.C.'s hip-hop luminaries as they paid homage to producer/rapper James "J Dilla" Yancey, in what's become an annual event, and raise awareness about the condition that cut his life short. The Detroit native died in 2006 from complications of Lupus.

On hand Wednesday night were his mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey, younger brother, John "Illa J" Yancey, and frequent collaborator, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest.

The capacity crowd was treated to performances of some of Dilla's classics like "Runnin'," "Stop," and "Move" by Grap Luva, Three Stars alum Zo!, Alison Carney, and a host of others. Not to mention, Phife performed what turned into a rap-a-long with audience members during a short set of his more memorable Tribe songs.

Sorry I missed this. Did Illa J perform?

Yeah he did. He was towards the end. I didn't see it (they stopped letting people enter the first floor after a while) but I heard it from upstairs. It was a good set and fitting way to round out the evening.
