Lee Konitz
>> 81-year old altoist Lee Konitz was a pioneer of the "cool jazz" movement of the 1950s and 60s, and was featured on Miles Davis's groundbreaking Birth of the Cool session. Konitz will bring his wealth of experience to bear at Blues Alley on Thursday. Appearing with him will be Minsarah, featuring German pianist Florian Weber, Israeli-born drummer Ziv Ravitz, and American bassist Jeff Denson. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Rising piano sensation Alex Brown blew us away two years ago at Duke Fest. The Columbia, MD native and current music student returns to the area for 9 and 11 p.m. sets at Twins Jazz on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15.
>> Another talented young pianist, Baltimore's Joel Holmes, will be playing this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. At just 24 years old, Holmes has already released multiple albums and has played at numerous prestigous venues. Tickets to the 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets are $15.
>> Guitarist Jimmy Bruno got his big break at just 19-years old, playing with legendary drummer Buddy Rich. Thirty five years later, he is a seasoned veteran and respected jazz educator. Catch him at Blues Alley on Saturday. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> Vocalist Luba Mason's latest album, Krazy Love, explores the trials and tribulations of modern relationships while using the Brazilian music as a launch pad. She will perform material from this album during her 8 and 10 p.m. sets next Tuesday at Blues Alley. Special guests will include her husband Ruben Blades, a vocalist and Pan-American star in his own right, along with Yellowjackets bassist Jimmy Haslip. Tickets are $35 + 12.50 minimum/surcharge.
