First, the Zoo's female Przewalski’s horse, Brandy, recently gave birth to a foal and has been observed successfully nursing. Przewalski’s horses are extinct in the wild, and the National Zoo runs an extensive Przewalski’s horse conservation program.
Second, yet another red panda cub, born to the Zoo's female red panda, Panya, was found in her nest box by keepers early Friday morning. This is the fifth red panda birth at the National Zoo’s Conservation and Research Center in the last three weeks. Red Pandas are also endangered.
None of these newborn animals will be on display at the CRC, unfortunately.

I'm having a rotten Monday, so keep the cute baby animal pics and stories coming. Bonus points if you have some closeups with wide-angle lenses, and maybe some animals with funny hats.
I'm having a rotten Monday..
Sounds like you are in a rut -- oh look! A newborn foal!

This site made my year, although it made my ovaries explode from the cuteness. Sorry about that.
I totally blame the American Apparel ads for this baby boom.
All of those young boys totally blew your mind? Or do I have that backwards?
I am so freaking confused!!!! Yes, confused and jealous.

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays.
Jeeez, Liz has got to be havin' an O by now.
It's always Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!!
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away.

So a commie panda was born too.
Ha Ha Ha. Red Panda...I get it.
Have any retarded monkeys ever been born at the zoo?
No; just visiting.
These are some really great animals to have babies to see. Both are quite rare and also very attractive (and cute). Just another great reason to go see the National Zoo, one of my favorites!
