You Know Something? He Did Say Well A Lot!

You'll have to forgive us for only getting around to this juicy piece of non-news today, but it appears as if Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board chairman H.R. Crawford might have suggested that he had heard from a friend's friend on the Hill about some rumors that people maybe perhaps were thinking about removing Ronald Reagan's name from its current place preceding the words "National Airport." Well, why doesn't he just call the Gipper a communist while he's at it! But seriously, those of you looking for a fast-track to lobotomization should go right ahead and read the large amount of comments left on the Examiner "report," but we'll sum it up here for you: the right-wingers don't like it, the left-wingers seem apathetic, and the whole thing turns into a ridiculous pissing contest between Obamans and Reaganites about health care. (I think.) No word on whether or not the Chairman has even considered renaming the airport "Rappin' Ronnie Reagan National Airport," which seems like the perfect compromise to this editor.

What the holy eff? Sounds to me like H.R. Crawford belongs to the paranoid wing of the right who likes to sit around and actually believe every delusional rumor about how the democrats are going to steal all of America's freedoms and turn this once great country into France, and think Sarah Palin is a hero for quitting... somehow.

Such unbelievable nonsense. That's the fun part of spreading a crazy paranoid rumor. Every nut job who is as crazy as you is going to believe it. Way to motivate your base.

Okay, I just followed the link. Crawford doesn't seem to be what i thought he was. He's just a moron.

Nothing should be named after politicians.

How did the Gipper ever agree to have his name attached to a public, government-owned airport? Not cool, man, not cool. You have to either privatize it or take his name off of this wasteful chunk of government spending.

Also, don't forget that "Washington" is still in the name. "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport"

Still not as bad as "Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport."

I don't understand. What is the waste of government spending? Spending the money changing the name to Ron Reagan airport in the first place? That's a valid position, but changing it back would be even more wasteful. Not important enough to bother. Regardless, I don't believe this nonsense for a second. Crawford might be dumb enough to think it would be worth the trouble. He might have a friend or two that are as dumb as he is. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe one or two imbecilic congresspersons agreed, but if this proposal ever made it to the floor it would be laughed out of the chamber.

Would the Gipper really want his name attached to a public, government-built (and owned and run) airport?

Then again, he was alive when his name was attached to it, so I guess he was cool with it.

Oh, teh ironiez of this topic. I've always loved 'em. Fire the air traffic controllers? Get an airport named after you! Devote your political career to opposing government waste? Get an enormous, brand-new federal office building named after you!

I think you're a bit confused about the name of the airport located in Arlington. It's called Washington National - not Reagan National airport.

yes "connie dobbs" I've lived here for 24 years. It was a joke about my refusal to call DCA Reagan National Airport.

(a) Reagan most likely never set foot in National Airport.
(b) He had full blown Alzheimer's when the name was changed.
(c) I'm not even sure I care about all this.
