>> Hillyer has events going on all weekend. On Friday, swing by their monthly HOME event. Poets should sign up for the open mic at 6 p.m.; everyone else be there by 7 p.m. $5. On Saturday, check out the performance piece Confirm or Ignore (from Facebook, get it?). The modern dance combines the work of Lotta Lundgren and Ilana Silverstein. Two showings, at 8 and 10 p.m., $10, RSVP strongly encouraged to dinnerpartyinfo[at]gmail.com or 202.386.2733.
>> Next Tuesday mark off your calendar for Awesomeness Squared: The Flashpoint Twister Experience at their gallery. From 6 to 8 p.m. enjoy some PBRs, the ongoing M3: MCs, Mics and Metaphors exhibit, some pigs in a blanket, and finding out if you're still as bendy as you were in college (and as sore the next day). There are even prizes for whoever makes it through the Twister brackets. The event is a fundraiser for the gallery, but $15 isn't much for an evening of entertainment at the venue that did a great job hosting DCist Exposed 2009.
>> Head to The Fridge DC for Graff/Skate this Saturday, featuring a silent auction of skateboards from local graff artists, live music, food, drinks, and a skate demo by professional skater Brian Tucci. 5 to 10 p.m.
>> Tonight the Smith Farm Healing Arts Gallery on U Street NW hosts a free lecture, In Shadow and In Light: The Healing Art of Photography, with Connie Reider, who used her camera to help her deal with being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
>> The Charles Sumner School Museum and Archives (1201 17th Street NW) opens Colors of Life with a Meet the Artists reception tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibit is co-sponsored by The Exposure Group of the African American Photographers Association, Inc. and Port of Harlem Magazine, which first featured the images.
