DC Beer Week Highlights

dcbeer09flat_edited-11-2-231x300.jpg Call up your favorite designated driver and break out your iCal - DC Beer Week is only a week away. With at least two events per night, a determined beer geek could fill every evening with multiple tastings across the city. But why run around when you’re trying to enjoy some good beer and stay out of the heat? The most in-depth calendar for Beer Week lives on their Facebook page, but here are some highlights for those who aren’t going to be squeezing in every last event:

Monday, August 17:

Allagash Beer Dinner with Rob Tod
Granville Moore’s hosts a five-course meal paired with six beers from Allagash Brewing Company. President and Brewmaster of Allagash, Rob Tod, will be in attendance to chat with attendees. $75. 7 p.m.

Hop Times in the City - A Beer Tasting for Hopheads & People Who Love Them
Come taste some of the hoppiest beers on the market, hoppy beer BBQ, hopped beer cocktails and hop ice cream. You think you like hops? Prove it at the Black Squirrel. 7:30-10 p.m.

Tuesday, August 18th:

Rogue Oregon Oyster and Ale Festival at The Reef
Yequina Bay Oysters are being flown in for this pairing of great food (including other non-Oyster dishes) and Rogue beer. Brutal Bitter and Oysters? Yes, please. 5-10 p.m.

Brooklyn Brewery Beer and Cowgirl Creamery Cheese Tasting
The trend of pairing cheese and beer together continues to gather steam at this Café St. Ex event. Local cheese favorites Cowgirl Creamery pairs up with Brooklyn Brewery for a night of marrying flavors. 7 p.m.

Abita Beer Crawfish Boil at the Argonaut
Wash down spicy crawfish and other southern eats with New Orleans brewery’s Abita Beer. 6 p.m.

Wednesday, August 19th:

Hitting for the Cycle
Ever wonder how a Belgian Double and Triple differ? Wanted to taste the less common and insanely sweet Quad? Marvin pairs up four styles of Belgian beer with their Southern-meets-Belgian cuisine. Attendees also have a chance to win two tickets to the August 21 Nats/Brewers game. $35. 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, August 20th:

Brew at the Zoo
This is not actually a part of DC Beer Week, but it looks like fun, has a great brewer list (Clipper City, Great Divide, Peak Organic, Victory and a ton of others), and proceeds go to support the Zoo. Food for sale by Rocklands BBQ, Hard Times and Armand’s Pizzeria. Music by Gonzo’s Nose and Batala Percussion Band. $35 (FONZ members) / $50 (non-members). 6-9 p.m.

Troegs Pint Night at the Red and Black
Pint glass giveaways throughout the night and tastings of Troeg’s award-winning beer. 7 p.m.

Friday, August 21st:

DC Beer Week Happy Hour at RFD
The week wrap-up happy hour includes specials on Allagash, Bell's and Dogfish Head. Being at RFD, you know the selection for each brewery will be fantastic. Wrap up Beer Week with a double-header, and stop here before heading to the Nats game. 4-8 p.m.

Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers - “DC Beer Week Brewers Game
You think they planned Beer Week around the Nats playing the Brewers? Probably not, but mentioning “Beer Week” when ordering tickets will get you a decent discount in certain sections of the park. 7:05 p.m.
