Yes, This Haynesworth Fellow Will Do Just Fine

2009_0828_bradyhit.jpg Personally, I've always found the NFL preseason to be little more than a waste of time.

New Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, obviously, thinks otherwise. The gigantic mountain of a man laid a lick on Tom Brady (video here) during last night's exhibition loss against New England, squishing his shoulder between his 350 pound frame and the FedEx Field turf. Brady -- who missed all of last season with a busted knee -- got up gingerly and didn't play another down last night, which seems about right after an enormous man runs your body into the ground. Brady was diagnosed with a sore shoulder.

Haynesworth was adamant that he wasn't trying to hurt the model quarterback, calling himself "a big Tom Brady fan." Of course, Bostonian fans -- obviously still smarting from a season without pretty boy behind center -- see things otherwise. But lest you think that Haynesworth feels bad about the hit, here's what he had to say about it:

"If I had to hit him again, I would hit him again. That's my job, that's what they brought me here to do."

I have a feeling that this guy is going to fit in pretty well around these parts.

Hey dude, our model quarterback lit your secondary up for two touchdowns as easy as pouring himself a cup of coffee. He'll be just fine. But hey, you've got what's-his-name at QB. Have fun with that.

I'll take a "pretty boy" and 3 rings over a inept offense, 3+ years of barely .500 football, and a stadium where visiting fans outnumber the home team's.

Oh, but I'm sure THIS is the year jason Campbell turns it around, right? ...

Gotta agree with the previous two. Brady may be a pretty boy, but he's also a two-time Super Bowl MVP. Try not to be jealous when you're watching him in the post-season and not the Skins, who will be lucky to go 7-9.

And Tony makes a great point. A Skins fan was joking with me and my friends (all wearing Pats jerseys) in the stands at the beginning of the game and said, "Let's see you move the ball against this year's defense!" After two deja vu "Brady to Moss" TDs, he turned around again and said, "Your guys walked down the field like they were strolling to Starbucks for some coffee. I should have known better than to get my hopes up for the Skins."

phht. you can have him. enjoy him, when he's not busy writhing on the field in fake-pain or stomping on people's heads.

love, a titans fan

"it's not like i was hitting Gisele" he said - classic.
And if you notice, he reached down to lift Brady up, as a reflex, not to attone. Classy.
