Marcellina.'s action shot of a breakdancing competition prompts the question: Is Reston, everyone's favorite post-war planned community, really the area's breakdancing mecca?

When did breakdancing become cool again?

It didn't. That's why this event took place in Reston, the birthplace of breakdancing.

Nice try, but breakdancing was never cool.

Turbo, Ozone and Rae Dawn Chong beg to differ

But not Ice T, who's appearance in "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo" as "Radiotron Rapper" nearly aborted his career.

I would hardly call Reston a breakdancing mecca. There are many events throughout the year held in DC, Northern VA, and Maryland (especially Baltimore). Reston houses only a piece of what goes on in that scene.

And everyone's favorite postwar planned community is, was, and ever shall be Greenbelt.

Nah... too Metro accessible.

I believe the breakdancers were imported to Reston for last weekend's Asian festival (what breakdancing has to do with Asian, I have no idea).

Yes you do. You're just not saying =P

This was from the Asian festival, which I went to ... and wondered why there was a hip-hop stage. (Asian Idol was on another stage.)

Breakdancing has been big in the asian community for like 20 years. There's always been a b-boy scene around here too. We have one of the most well known b-boy crews in the nation (Lionz of Zion).
There, now you're informed :)

I was hoping for a Barrackdancing event, but, well, it's Virginia...
