Robert Novak, the conservative commentator often referred to as The Prince of Darkness, has succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 78. Kenneth Tomlinson at HumanEvents.com, which published the Evans-Novak Report up until it was canceled last year, confirmed the news this morning. Novak, perhaps now best known for his role in outing CIA agent Valerie Plame, first announced he had been diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor almost exactly a year ago, and promptly decided to retire. The diagnosis came just a short time after Novak struck a homeless man with his car in downtown Washington.
Novak was the author of several books, including The Prince of Darkness: 50 Years Reporting in Washington, and over his long career as a pundit made regular appearances on shows like The Capital Gang, CNN's Crossfire, and Evans, Novak, Hunt, & Shields.

Permission to speak ill of the dead?
Permission granted, since he's not really dead until they pound a stake through his heart, cut off his head, and place holy wafers between his fangs.
Damn, beat me to it. I second the granting of permission.
Damn it. Who will undermine national security for partisan gain now?
He's gone to a better world; one where he can drive his Corvette over Boxcar Willie with impunity.
There is another world, there is a better world.
Well, there must be...well-ell, there must be.
DC's homeless are breathing a collective giant sigh of relief.
I don't think the guy he hit was homeless was he? Wasn't it a bicycle messenger or something?
It was a homeless guy. Someone on a bike tried to stop Novak has he drove off in search of another victim.
Dibs on the Prince of Darkness' remains.
I always did want to make it with royalty.
And you always did want to make it with the dead body of an elderly man. This way, you can bang two birds with one stone.
Way to play the geriatric necrophilia card there. Remind me never to play Yu-Gi-Oh! with you.
Maybe Kennedy'll keel over today too. That way, all the partisans can revel in an orgy of tastelessness and self-righteousness in one shot so we don't have to repeat all this down the road.
It's now safe to walk the streets.
Street walking again Liz?
Bad habits are hard to beat.
At least Prick Cheney is still alive.
I also thought he could be turned back to the good side. It couldn't be done. He is more machine now than man. Twisted and evil.
"perhaps now best known for his role in outing CIA agent Valerie Plame,"
One of the more partisan, and idiotic statements, ever made on this blog. Would you include the "outing" of CIA personnel in an obituary of Jack Anderson?
By the way, Valerie Plame was not outed by Bob Novak. Her employment in the CIA was the worst kept secret in Northern Virginia, and Novak's reporting of her position was an important detail in a story about why her husband was sent on a investigative mission to Africa.
Maybe its not partisanship, but jealously. Bob Novak, after all, did write for the Wall Street Journal and Chicago Sun-Times. He also wrote best selling books and appeared on CNN regularly.
You write for a blog. Go back to covering fake zombies.
But will he stay buried? My guess is he vaporizes in sunlight.
And yes, he did help out Valerie Plame whether it was secret or not. And as far as I know, that's still treason because until it's disclosed by an official source it's still considered....rumor. Go back to doing what you do best--critiquing blogs.
It is not treason by any measure, even if Novak and Armitage knew that she was covert. Treason is specifically defined in the Constitution.
Would it be possible to lock up together all the people who allege that Bush, Cheney and/or Rumsfeld are war criminals or traitors and all the people who think that Obama is a socialist/non-U.S. citizen/gun-grabbing homo-marrying crypto-fascist somewhere far far away? Hopefully they'd all suffocate on their own nonsense and flatus.
If you're looking to suffocate on nonsense and flatus, they're doing a Brookly Brewing/Cowgirl Creamery tasting at Saint Ex. Be sure to bring plenty of matches.
But if I use up all my matches immolating hipsters, how'll I start dumpster fires?
So DCist can't cover real zombies, only fake ones?
WTF do you think the National Review is for?
"By the way, Valerie Plame was not outed by Bob Novak. Her employment in the CIA was the worst kept secret in Northern Virginia, and Novak's reporting of her position was an important detail in a story about why her husband was sent on a investigative mission to Africa."
Now that is one of the more partisan, and idiotic statements, ever made on this blog. The fact is, Plame was a covert agent at the time of the Novak leak.

Partisan Hack alert. Seal the exits.
I hope I get half as many snarky comments when I finally bite the dust.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine and his eyebrows, Black Jack and Streaky Joe.
His merkin was reported missing and presumed tasteless.
Molly!
Get back in the Vette, Liz. It's only a homeless guy.
JUST DANCE!
Just what hell needed, another soul to contribute to the already difficult issues of population control and over-crowding of the underworld.
He's just going down there early to turn a light on and warm up the firey couch for his friends Limbaugh, Falwell, and Cheney; who we hope will be joining him shortly.
Um, Falwell died in 2007.
Clearly most of you lack any class at all. RIP Robert Novak.
Of course we don't have class -- it's summer!
Oh there you go, bringing class into it again...
You don't really come to this site looking for class?
Right, like GOP knob gobblers won't be tap dancing on Ted Kennedy's grave.
More like pissing on his grave. The only GOP knob gobbler who can dance is Tom Delay.
Clearly most of you lack any class at all. RIP Robert Novak.
Well, to be fair, you're supposed to *earn* your respect by not being a little shit-nibbler while alive.
