We told you a few months ago about a new venture by CityZen's Eric Ziebold at the Mandarin Oriental called South by Southwest. The restaurant is supposed to offer less pricey regional fare. The name was questioned by the City Paper's Tim Carman, so when a number of folks received invitations to save the date for the opening of Sou'wester, we wondered, what's going on here?
According to Ziebold, the rationale was a lawsuit brought by some pesky Texans, who want their SXSW to be the one and only. He writes, "Sou’Wester is a strong wind or storm that comes blowing in from the Southwest, and it has a nautical connotation. So we’re talking about the sweeping change that is occurring here. Also still trying to hint that we’re on the water."
And from what we hear, the new Sou'wester will be sailing in to D.C. by mid-September.

And Now, 10-20 Inches

I assume that this is not going to supplant CityZen, but I don't know...anyone know details here?
Most of the details were in the post we did it about it before. The sous from CityZen, Rachael Harriman is going to be in the kitchen at Sou'wester.
Cool, thanks. Come on, Jamie, you know I'm too lazy to actually read :)
The GOG blog notes it replaces Cafe MoZU. CityZen isn't going anywhere.

By the way, we at The Southwester newspaper aren't complaining about the new name.
Wait, you can't just take the name for your business from a globally renowned, trademarked entity? WTF? I'm going to have to change the name of my gourmet cupcakery from "Microsoft" to something else.
I'm not completely sold on this idea. I really really like Cafe MoZU and would hate to see it go..
gotta love the way "Sou'wester" rolls off the tongue, too.
