>> Jazz in the Garden hosts the Army's premiere big band, the U.S. Army Blues, on Friday. Also on the bill is Bruno Nasta, a first rate violinist and the regular MC for the event. 5 to 8:30 p.m. Free

>> Area native Andrea Wood is a talented singer who is completing her undergraduate studies in jazz performance at Michigan State. Catch this Ellington grad's hometown appearance at Twins Jazz on Friday and Saturday. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.
>> Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt began tearing up the New York scene as soon has he moved there in 1998, just after completing his training at the famed Berklee College of Music. Catch this young lion at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets are $18.
>> The Potomac Jazz Project, under the direction of local bassist Stan Hamrick, celebrates the release of its debut album, Bop, Ballads, & Blues on Saturday at the Ice House Cafe in Herndon. 7:30 to 11 p.m. Call (703)437-4500 for cover information.

>> Cleveland based saxophonist Bobby Selvaggio has earned praise from some of the top names in jazz, and his latest CD, Modern Times, features nationally recognized musicians like Sean Jones and Kenny Werner. Selvaggio will lead a group at Blues Alley on Monday. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
