Another violent daytime crime in the District to report this afternoon. At approximately 2:50 p.m., two transgendered men were stabbed in front of 209 Q Street NW, D.C. police said. Both of the victims were transported to area hospitals, where one of them died a short time later. Police would not speculate on a possible motive in the attack, though a suspect is said to have been spotted fleeing the scene before first responders arrived. FOX 5 also has the story.

That's terrible. Hate crime, I'd say.
Most likely drug related.
yonas and downtown rez, what insider information do you two have? Because with the data available to me I don't have enough information to draw any conclusions. Although, coupled with the daytime shooting on 16th street, I'm suspecting either a revolution or an angry sun god communicating with his minions. Victims were all moon worshipers, obviously.
Oh no, have we made the angry sun god even angrier? I knew this was going to happen when I took up the hobby of throwing lolcatz into wood-chippers...
Dude, sun god HATES LOLCats. LOLCats are liege to Diana, so you're totally cool... during the daytime, that is.
Ask the folks in Mount Vernon Square and Downtown.
The social dysfunction that so often goes hand and hand with the transgendered community, you can really take your pick of any number causations of conflict. Drugs, owed money, prison beef, angry pimp, etc... or even maybe a hate crime. Not very likely, mind you. Regardless, it's way too early to be drawing any conclusions.
No hard evidence, obviously. Just making an educated guess, referring mentally back to other similar hate crimes in that general vicinity.
I think the perp was driven to insanity by trying to figure out how come there is no circle at Truxton Circle
the 2nd street nw co-op...not the nicest place in DC...
The splashes of red on the co-op's siding, it's blood.
What was that about ending the year with fewer than 100 homicides?
Yep - Lanier totally jinxed and goochered herself when she made that prediction.
She meant ending the year with fewer than 100 homicides starting from tomorrow.
Just so long as they stay away from Big Bear Coffee. That place is stabby enough as it is! I asked for a iced double espresso, and the barista threatened to stab me in the junk! And I was like, "If I want my groin threatened, I'll take my business to Nick Cho! Good day to you, sir!" So I put on my monocle, brush off my spats, walk a block south, and got stabbed FOR FREE.
Oh, so it's a free stabbing you want, is it? Well, there's four places for that. There's Stab Hut, that's on third. There's Shiv-R-Us, that's on third too. You got Put Your Icepick Here. That's on third. Puncture? I Just Met Her . . . matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the stabbing complex on third.
The Shank District!
Are those places close to Big Slice or Jumbo Slice? I heard they can barely give anyone a good bloody customer service. I'll take my stabbing elsewhere...
Maybe Lanier was thinking government fiscal year which is about a month away. Sooooo, maybe she'll meet her 'less than 100' goal.
Did this happen in the circle itself, or nearby? Oh, wait...
I'm with IMGOPH here.
As soon as I received an email re: this incident from the MPD5 listserve, my first thought was "Shocker". This is a block that seriously looks, feels and smells like something from The Wire. Down to the guys a block away yelling "5-0 comin'" when they see the cops.
To be blunt, at least this happened down on Q St. instead of up in the Florida Ave park that backs onto the housing. That park has enough problems.
If bloomingdale farmers market happened every day, these folks probably wouldn't have been stabbed
It is terrible. Note to author M to F transgender people are referred to as female not male.
Note to McSpanky, Certainly sex work, drug addiction and poverty is prevalent in the transgender community, so is suicide, for obvious reasons such as being thrown out of our homes, the inability to be hired for a job, the inability to afford an education, lack of support from family, the internalized baggage of self loathing etc. etc.
BUT The same afflictions could be said of any multitude of poor non-transgender and 'straight' people. As a trans person myself who works a professional career and enjoys all of the blessings life has to offer you did overgeneralize. We walk among you.
Yay you for not telling me anything that I didn't already know.
Yay me for not saying anything that I'm sure wasn't alreay said by the Gay and Lesbian Liason Unit when they were called up by the homicide detective.
The cap'n beat me to an appropriate response.
Guesty, if you already knew, why didn't your comment reflect that?
