Metro's scheduled weekend track maintenance, which includes ongoing track circuit repairs on the Red Line as a result of the June 22 crash, will continue to cause delays for Red and Orange Line riders this weekend.

Red Line: Remember that over the entire weekend, there will be no Red Line service at all at the Fort Totten station. Track circuit repairs in the area of the June 22 crash mean that Red Line trains will operate only between Shady Grove and Brookland-CUA and between Glenmont and Takoma, from 10 p.m. Friday, August 14, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 16. Shuttle buses will be on hand to take Red Line riders between Brookland-CUA, Fort Totten and Takoma.

Orange Line: Rail replacement work between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA will add up to 30 minute delays on the Orange line, as trains will share the same track between the two stations from 8 p.m., Friday, August 14, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 16.

In order to help keep things moving on Saturday and Sunday, every other Orange Line train heading in the direction of Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.

Do we really need these posts every friday? Metro has announced there is going to be work done during every weekend in August.

I know. It's just that when they go "oh, we need to do a 10am update", it would be nice to have something that people may not already know about.

If you think that's annoying be glad you don't get a message from Metro Sunday thru Thursday announcing evening track work.

Yeah, they're a bit redundant but the specifics of the work change from weekend to weekend, and something like "Fort Totten Station is going to be completely closed all weekend," is pretty big news for anyone intending to use the Red Line to get in or out of the city.

I certainly don't want to bore anyone, I just figure people forget about this stuff and appreciate the reminders of major delays and closures. Also, WMATA routinely makes changes to the specific weekend work they'll be doing even after they announce their plans at the beginning of the month

To be honest, I find the information helpful. I don't subscribe to the alters, so I tend not to know which tracks are going to be worked on most of the time. These weekly posting help me to gauge which mode of transportation I should use to get me to my destination faster.

Thanks Sommer.
