Tuesday, Sept. 22 will mark this year's Car Free Day, and organizers in the D.C. Metro area are hoping to exceed the number of pledges they get from last year's total number of participants, which came in at 5,445.
All you have to do head to this page and fill out the electronic pledge form, which commits you to eliminating or reducing your driving on Sept. 22. A number of special events will mark the occasion, including a Car Free Day street fair celebration at 7th & F Streets NW, much like last year's. Find more details about other Car Free events across the region here.

Let's say you're an environmentally conscious, hooker-strangling city mayor. Let's also say that you decide to participate in Car Free Day to set a good example for your constituents. What do you do with the dead hookers on Car Fre Day? You can't just leave them in the trunk until the next day. That'd be barbaric, not to mention unsanitary. Bet the people running Car Free Day didn't think of that.
Isn't that why God created the walk-in freezer?
God created the Stripes! girl, among other delightful creatures. The walk-in freezer is Scandinavian Satan's handiwork.
Pledged! I am going to NOT drive 48 miles round-trip on 9/22. Whew. Now, if only my boss is okay with that...
Free car? At 7th and F? I'm there!
so, if you don't drive already, what do you need to do? promise to take out a driver with a well-placed box of tacks?
What they're really trying to do is spark interest in Michelle Obama's Farmers Market by using that day to say "there's no traffic on Vermont and H". What I'm really hearing is that 14th Street could actually be passable. Shame I'll be in Chicago that day.
Will there be free parking at the event?
I encourage everyone to participate in Free Car Day by stealing a bitchin Camaro, bitchin Camaro, and doing donuts on your lawn.
