The hugely delayed Washington Convention Center Hotel deal, which in July appeared to be back on track thanks to a city-brokered public financing deal with developers, is once again in trouble. Developer JBG Cos. is suing to stall the start of construction, claiming that the contracting process that gave a 99-year lease to Marriott was not up to snuff, the Washington Business Journal is reporting. The lawsuit could very well mean that the sale of bonds for the project could be delayed, which would in turn push back ground breaking on the project. The city's only hope to keep things on track will be if a judge agrees to toss out the case in short order, as construction has been slated to begin this fall.

nothing like a well-timed lawsuit to engender good feeling from the city you're trying to do a lot of other business in.
Why do we give developers 99-year leases, knowing full well that we have to sue them after a few decades to get the property back? We did this with Robert Haft and the Tivoli Theater. The Redevelopment Land Agency did this with numerous developers who merely squatted on properties hoping their value would rise. WTF is up with that magic 99-year number and why do the overpaid notary publics on the Council continue to kowtow to these parasitic necrophiles with their excessive addictions to alcohol and certain explicit sexual practices that most people would find offensive?
But I guess if a project is too-big-to-fail, it's far more important to bail out said parasitic necrophiles so they can go back to sucking our brains through our eye sockets.
