Cue Bar Space to Become U Street Music Hall

Nice scoop from Fritz Hahn: the empty basement space at 1115 U Street NW, formerly occupied by Cue Bar, will be taken over by an all-star group of local nightlife veterans and transformed into a dance club dubbed the U Street Music Hall. Among the owners are ubiquitous local DJs Will Eastman and Jesse Tittsworth, Eric Hilton and Farid Ali of Eighteenth Street Lounge, and Marvin chef James Hilton. Nice to hear that the space, which has been the site of many a failed bar venture and been sitting empty for over a year, will see some new life. There definitely seems like there's room for something like this on U Street, as well. As Eastman noted when he spoke to Hahn, some kinds of dance nights don't fit in at either the Black Cat or the 9:30 Club, so this project could potentially fill that void.

No way. I practically live on that block, and I welcome this. Despite what it seems, there are no good small-medium dance clubs in DC that play real dance music. There are the large clubs downtown and in near NE, but those can be tricky to get to or have a big cover. There are rock clubs all over the place, but that's not it either and it attracts a a very different crowd than what I'm looking for. There's the Adams Morgan staple top-40 dance clubs, but those are usually based on terrible remixes of bad songs spun by bad DJs. I am looking forward to this, and the fact that it will be under ground will prevent any noise leakage (I would presume), so no concerns there.

krisa: for your sake, i hope you're right. u street does have its share of NIMBYs, though.

It's about time DC got an alternative dance space where clog, dervish, lap, safety, and Saint Vitus dancers can shake their moneymakers, preferrably at the same time.

Cause that'w what DC really needs, another club w/djs. I was getting excited and was hoping it might have been a jazz club or something...ya know being on U street and all.

You already have a jazz club on U Street. It's called Twins Lounge. They also have jazz at Bohemian Cavern. Then there's HR-57. But by all means, yes, they definitely need more jazz clubs on U Street. Kinda like how you can never have enough LNS douches in Georgetown or terrifying inches on your wang.

Those baloney extensions ain't foolin' anybody monkey.

Shows how much you know. Those "baloney" extensions are mortadella.

Now yer just beggin for a bobbitt.

Twins, Bohemian Caverns, HR-57 (not technically on U Street but close enough)...and don't forget Utopia. There's plenty of jazz on U Street and elsewhere in the District. There's not enough house, disco, and dance music venues in DC for folks who enjoy it but don't exactly enjoy the superclubs and "lounges" and the unsavory clientele therein. I enjoy Eastman's sets at the Black Cat and 9:30, but it's not enough. Maybe this will fix that. Definitely looking forward to it.
