Daytime Shooting On H Street NE

D.C. police say they are investigating a daytime shooting in the 1200 block of H Street NE. An adult female was shot at about 12:54 p.m. at 1275 H Street NE.

D.C. Fire/EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and was transported to Washington Hospital Center. The victim is said to be in serious condition with non life-threatening wounds.

No details were immediately available from MPD on a suspect, though police have been in the area conducting a search.

UPDATE: The WaPo is now reporting that police are looking for an armed suspect in a wheelchair who "rolled away before patrol cars arrived."

WTF, another woman was shot (and killed) like right at that exact spot in early May.

I thought guns were illegal in the daytime!

Somebody should really arrest that gun.

Hey, at least the shuttles to H St. NE are free!

Charles is wrong. He may be thinking of the woman killed at 14th & Maryland NE. That murder was an assassination of a informer with no one arrested.

The boldness of these day time shootings is due to the lack of police visibility on the H street NE corridor. The knuckle heads know that they can get away with it.

Ya think? I'm on H St several times a week (I live in the area) and it's rare that I don't see a cop when I'm down there.

the alleged suspect reportedly fleed on a wheel chair if you can believe it

i live near there and i always see cops. doesnt seem to prevent crime though

I guess he was armed but not legged.

I live in this area too and I see police quite often. I actually do not think there has been very much violence in this area at all this year, especially when compared to other neighborhoods. I feel that a lot of people pick on the H Street corridor because they think it is a "bad" neighborhood when other neighborhoods, like Columbia Heights, has had much more crime this year.

Don't worry, silly. Both neighborhoods suck.

"other neighborhoods, like Columbia Heights, has had much more crime this year."

That's like saying California has way more crime than Montana. Care to take a gander at the population density, and number of people walking around H Street Northeast every day, compared to Columbia Heights?

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking with two robberies committed about five blocks apart, both by a guy in a wheelchair, that it very well might be the same guy.

Alright. You're crazy. I say this is a totally DIFFERENT DOUBLE AMPUTEE IN A WHEELCHAIR WITH A SHOTGUN. And he's slowly...getting...away...from the police. Jeezus, this is like some Boss Hogg/Roscoe P. Coaltrain $h!t right there. All they need is some old timey banjo chase music. See, this is what happens when you elect a stonewalling, domewaxing oil-soaked Middle Eastern pervert enthusiast and parttime lycronaut. The town gets overrun with shotgun totin double amputees and their slow rollin reign of terror. Except you were too BUSY DRINKING ICED DOUBLE ESPRESSOS and getting JUNKPUNCHED to notice. Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to make ghetto lattés!

If I were being robbed by a guy in a wheelchair, I'd take a whole jar full of pickled eggs and throw it at him and say "Catch!" He'd have to catch it, because who wants a big jar of pickled eggs breaking in your lap? Of course, he'd have to drop his shotgun, at which point I'd pick it up and say "Who's running this show now, 2 Fast 2 Felonious?" At that point I would be arrested by the DC police for firearms violations and aggravated assault by egg jar, but I would go willingly, knowing that I'd just rid the streets of a dangerous criminal, namely myself.

I'd definitely watch that movie if it starred Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis. They should call it "Unbreakable Pickled Egg Jar."

I don't know how much violence is "not much". Within the past 3 months, there have been 6 robberies and 6 assaults on H street, between 8th and 15th. I'm on H street almost daily and I rarely see a cop. They clearly are visible to the crooks either.

every time i go to H street, i see at least 3 cops on foot/bike. not to mention at least one or two cars patrolling the street. they typically congregate around 12th and H.

the off duty ones take their bikes and segway/ATV things to Taylor to eat. one there were 5 of them in there. i felt very safe inside. but outside? that might be a different story.

regardless, the cops' presence doesnt seem to deter crime.

oh and can someone explain the off-duty cops who work security at the martini lounge? they LOVE to instigate trouble. then they call their cop friends for backup.
