Family Education Expo Planned for Saturday

2009_911_EdExpo.jpg Earlier this week, the D.C. Double the Numbers Collation launched a new website, doublethenumbersdc.org, featuring interactive tools and advice aimed at guiding D.C. students through the college application process. Many D.C. students are woefully uninformed about how to apply and pay for higher education, and a 2006 report found that only 9 percent of D.C. 9th graders graduate from college within five years of earning their diploma, less than half the national average. D.C.'s College Awareness Month runs from September 9th to October 9th.

Additionally, the DC Family Education Partnership will host an expo tomorrow for D.C. parents and students to share educational resources and opportunities that are available in the District. Workshop sessions, exhibits, and hands-on learning activities are scheduled throughout the day, and interpretation services will be available to parents who speak limited English. The Expo will be held from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at the Columbia Heights Education Campus, 3101 16th Street, NW. Full program schedule and more information is available here.

While we're plugging DC expos on Saturday, there will also be a Green Your Home expo sponsored by the DC Office of Planning at the UDC outdoor plaza at 4200 Conn. Ave, from 10am - 2pm: http://ow.ly/p3Ol

(They claim there will be a farmer's market, bike tours, and live jazz, too.)
