DCist's September Theater Preview

sundays.jpg Woo! We made it through the dog days of August and finally have a substantial amount of theater opening this month. Here are some of the highlights.

The Kennedy Center's Page-To-Stage festival, which focuses on readings, offers glimpses into experimental new works and peeks at upcoming seasons for area theaters (Sept. 5).

The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is in the house at Toby's Dinner Theater, as the company performs Sweeney Todd (Sept. 5).

Everyone knows the story of The Picture of Dorian Gray, but get a new interpretation of it at Round House (Sept. 9).

If DCist has any teeny-bopper fans out there, A) God help us and B) They should be aware that High School Musical is playing Wolf Trap (Sept. 5).

Billy Crystal stops in D.C. for the touring production of 700 Sundays at the National (Sept. 8).

  • Studio Theatre starts the season off with a family drama, Moonlight (Sept. 9).
  • American Century Theater takes a look at the Vietnam War with A Piece of my Heart (Sept. 11).
  • Arena Stage's The Quality of Life focuses on two couples (Sept. 11).
  • If you missed Synetic's spring production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, you've got another chance to catch it (Sept. 17).
  • Ganymede gets back on the scene with its Falls Arts Festival (Sept. 18).
  • Black Pearl Sings! over at Ford's Theater (Sept. 25).

Still Playing: September 12 is the last weekend for Olney's production of A Passion For Justice: An Encounter With Clarence Darrow, the Shakespeare Free-For-All and Rep Stage's Wittenberg; On September 20, Scena's Dublin Carol, which Ian reviewed, closes; the end of the month means the end for Theater J's Zero Hour, WSC's Camille, and Woolly Mammoth's Eclipsed; Signature's appealing Dirty Blonde and Metro Stage's Musical of Musicals: The Musical run into October.
