D'Oh! FOX 5 Pushes The Simpsons to Late Night

2009_0915_simpsons.jpg For as long as I can remember, syndicated episodes of The Simpsons have aired at 7 p.m. on FOX 5. And what a perfect time for America's longest-running TV comedy. At 6 you might still be at work, and at 8 you're ready for prime-time shows. But at 7 o'clock, it's time for re-runs of any of the show's 441 episodes. No longer, it seems. As of Monday, September 21, WTTG-FOX 5 is pushing its syndicated episodes of The Simpsons to the 11:30 p.m. time slot. Seinfeld will move up a half-hour to 7 p.m., while re-runs of The Office will debut in the 7:30 p.m. opening. Don't get me wrong -- that's a fine hour of TV. But dumping one of America's best cartoon shows to the nether regions of TV viewing times? That's simply criminal. How about a compromise we can all agree on? Push TMZ to 11:30 -- or just cancel it, I don't care -- and give The Simpsons the 6:30 slot. Just don't force me to stay up late to get my fix. (NB: New episodes of the The Simpsons will still air at 8 p.m on Sundays).

UNACCEPTABLE. They have tried this and been rebuked before; do your democratic duty!

If they showed more of seasons 2-7 and less of the newer garbage they make this time slot pay off a little better.

If they showed more of seasons 2-7, then you wouldn't have to buy the DVD's. And then people wouldn't make money off of you.

Sadly, The Simpsons does not have the pull it used to.

We could start a protest - dress up like patriots and have abortions for some, minature American flags for others.

I agree. The politics of failure have failed. We need to make them work again.

We must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and always twirling, twirling, TWIRLING towards freedom!

I don't care *when* they are - as long as they show stuff from the first 8 seasons. If they're losing ad revenue in the 6:30 timeslot, it's 'cause they keep showing the crap episodes.

Noooooooooooo!

I guess I'll just have to DVR it every night and watch it the next day after work.

alright, tom, time to create some sort of autodialer or spambot so we can bring WTTG to their knees!

Can you post a link as to where we can write the station to protest? The Office is not nearly as funny as the Simpsons.

One viewer for Fox lost.

Agreed. The Office is always a weird uncomfortable type of funny and the Simpsons just is so much more universal in its jokes.

Wow, that's pretty rash. IMO the Simpsons have gone the way of the dinosaur. The endings are way to lame. TMZ sucks, and while THe Office may be new, nothing is fresh about that comedy either.

Can we all agree that they should move Family Guy there?

I hate to admit it, but I have a crush on the surfer looking dude from TMZ. The dumb but pretty one. Liz, back me up on this one?

The Simpsons have gone the way of the dinosaur. The endings are always lame. TMZ blows too. While the Office is new, there's nothing real fresh about their comedy. Why not Family guy? I hate having to wait until 10 to see re-runs of that.

Family Guy can't be shown without sh*tty editing before 9pm (That show is dead to me without Cleveland Steamer references). It totally sucks at 8pm on TBS - so be careful what you wish for.

Fox should just replace TMZ with daily 30 minute installments of Homer Simpson, Portrait of an Assgrabber starring Dennis Franz.

alright, tom, time to fashion some sort of autodialer or spambot so we can bring WTTG to their knees!

So you're suggesting that we subject FOX-5 to the wrath of Happy and/or Sorry Dude? I could support that.

i guess i'm missing the reference here...

D'oh! This Thanksgiving, I will give thanks for my TiVo and used DVDs of seasons 1-8. FOX5 can eat my shorts!!

This is an abomination! I'm still mad about when they reduced the two Simpsons reruns down to one, and now this? It's too late - 11:30 is bedtime, I have to get up at 5:45. TMZ is lame; Simpsons seasons 1-10 has that beat anytime, anyday. Boo, FOX5!!

In hindsight the two a night thing was great. Plus, if you could get Baltimore stations back then you were treated to FOX 5 Simpsons @ 6, then Baltimore's FOX 45 Simpsons @ 6:30, AND finally your choice of episode at 7 since both Baltimore and DC had the Simpsons at that slot. Those were the days.

Man, who needed season DVD's with 1.5 hours broadcast everyday?

looks like Simpson's will still be broadcast at 7pm on ch 54 for those of us in DC who can pull it in

This must've been what it was like 20 years ago when stations starting weening themselves off of syndicated M*A*S*H reruns.

whaaat. i've literally been watching the simpsons in the evenings on fox since i was in middle school! (and it did used to be an hour earlier at 6). laaaame. but yeah, i guess it had to happen sometime.

Whoops, sorry son. I didn't know you, Jay Leno, and a monkey were bathing a clown.

Hulu is all well and good, but they only play a very small portion of full episodes and it's usually from select seasons. Hulu is better for catching up on a missed new episode than trying to find older ones--but they do have a ton of clips which can pass some time :-)

Oh that IS evil! The Simpsons is the only show on weeknights worth watching (on Fox) it always comes on as I'm eating my dinner and allows me to eat in front of the TV without feeling guilty... Alas, no way in hell am I staying up after the news... I'm long in bed by 11:30. Maybe I'll have to invest in Tivo?

Maybe I'll have to invest in Tivo?

I don't know how you've made it this long without it. I'd rather not watch TV than sit through commercials or have to stop what I'm doing to watch a show. Positively uncivilized.

Ugh! I have to change my DVR setting? Damn it! TMZ should be taken out completely because it's garbage.

I told fox this was a stellar move like most things they do. Now it will free up more of my time to watch arrested development and futurama on their fine network ...

Good riddance. Simpsons is a shitty show that was past its prime ten years ago. Groening and the rest of his racist frat pack can go fuck an egg.
