Last Night's Action: Get Real

Jaguars 24, Redskins 17: Now, we can move on to the important stuff. The Redskins finished out their preseason schedule with a loss to the Jags, who decided to play their first-team for most of the first half, while Washington didn't bother risking anyone important -- Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Albert Haynesworth -- so close to the season opener. Jacksonville hopped out to a 21-0 lead, but since the Redskins were basically just holding auditions for the final few roster spots, the score really doesn't matter.

The Redskins open on the road at the Giants in ten short days. But before that, final cutdowns must be made. Some battles to keep an eye on in the coming days before the final reduction to the official 53-man roster: the tight third-string quarterback battle between Colt Brennan (10/14, 83 yards in last night's game) and Chase Daniel (8/16, 85 yards, TD); the coin-toss that is the kicking competition between Shaun Suisham and Dave Rayner; and any sort of surprises which lie on the fringes of the depth chart.

The Redskins may currently be fighting the battle of public perception, but football is almost here, everyone and we're rapidly nearing towards the ideal Sunday: nothing much to do other than throw on the slippers and watch larger than life athletes hit each other all day.

At least the Mystics won last night.

As long as I don't put a penny in Snyder's pocket.

Get back on the bandwagon, Liz.

(Kidding - I hate Lil' Napoleon too.)
