The Metro Transit Police Department has identified the man who was fatally struck by a Red Line train on Sunday morning as Joshua Fueston, 19, of Bellingham, WA. A preliminary investigation indicated Fueston placed himself in the path of the train just before 8 a.m., but Metro Transit Police continues to investigate. The aftermath of the incident caused major delays on the Red Line until just after 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Perhaps they should install some sort of a detection system that will alert operators in the train and the control center that something/one is on the tracks. All of the incidents with people 'placing themselves in the path of the train' is getting ridiculous!
Yeah, I've heard those trains can stop on a dime.
If someone is committed in killing themselves, there is no technology that can be made to stop them.

Has there been any other update on the Metro employee who was hit by a train? That one seems to have no follow up - driver's fault? Employee's fault? Current condition? Anything?
How sad, yet another war vet to come back and not be properly treated for their depression....
2 things...I'm with Beth', interested in a follow up on that previous Metro employee story if possible. Also, I'd be interested in a follow up on this Josh Fueston kid. It seems like such a random sad story, and one that is clearly pertinent to the larger fabric of news of which DCist only (for good reason) reports a smidgen. On its face, it's such a confusing grab bag of circumstances. I'm sure I could dig it all up myself, but I figure it's worth mentioning so that maybe it will have a larger platform than my insignificant little comment.

rip josh.. no idea why supposedly got on the tracks.. of course we all assume suicide. he was discharged medically from the army.. was wounded overseas, shot in the shoulder, and got shrapnel in his knees, resulting in ptsd, sent to walter reed.. then got out of the army, tested with dcfd and mpdc, not sure what the results were.
