Metro to Stay Open Late for U2 Concert

WMATA sent out word today that it will be keeping the Metro system station open late on Tuesday night in order to accommodate U2 fans coming home from FedEx Field. All stations except Morgan Boulevard will be exit-only after midnight, but those who enter at Morgan Boulevard after midnight will find both trains waiting for them at that station, and additional trains at all transfer points on the Blue Line to take them to their destinations, Metro spokesperson Steven Taubenkibel said.

Expecting a very large crowd, Live Nation has also sent out driving and traffic instructions for motorists, which we've gone ahead and posted after the jump. FedEx will be opening its parking lots to concert attendees at noon, even though doors don't open until 5 p.m., so that should give you some idea of how big a hassle parking there is expected to be. Being the environmentally conscious band that they are, U2 would prefer it if fans would either take Metro and walk the mile or so to FedEx, or else avail themselves of the group's online carpool matching service, courtesy PickUpPal.

Say the millionaires who travel everywhere by helicopter, limo, jetpack, or gold-plated sedan chair drawn by groupies in bootie shorts and tube tops. If I'm spending $500 for tickets, I'm sure as hell not going to walk with the stinking plebes.

Go hobo rickshaw or GTFO.

Well monkey, gold-plated sedan chair drawn by groupies in bootie shorts and tube tops are actually environmentally friendly so there's that. No emissions harmful to mother earth, unless the wrong kind of groupies are chosen for the task.

Are people really going to show up at noon? If I have General Admission tickets, and show up after, say, a full day of work, am I going to be able to see anything besides the head of the guy in front of me? Oh, I'm so spoiled by 9:30 club...

I know people who plan to show up at noon. If not earlier. I have GA tickets but don't plan on showing up so earlier. From what I've heard of previous shows on the tour the GA area really doesn't fill up until the opening act is on or finishes.

I've read reviews of other concerts that say you can pretty much see everything from the floor unless you stand right behind part of the 'Claw'. If you're in the inner circle you'll miss out on seeing the overall special effects, but you'll be closer to the band. There's apparently more room outside the circle, plus you can see the screens better.

I've got GA too and can't get there til after work, plus I'm short, so I'm slightly worried I'll get stuck behind somebody tall. Hopefully not!

You can metro to FedEx field? I thought it was designed specifically to prevent that.

Sure you can, I've done it. It's a little bit of a walk from the station, but it's way better than trying to park.
