Sunday saw the running of the annual Nation's Triathlon. Flickr contributor Brian Knight Photography was up early to capture this stunning sunrise at the Lincoln Memorial as the athletes swam in the Potomac. Congratulations to all who swam, biked, and ran in the triathlon! (EXIF)

Oh, wow. I didn't see the positions of the monuments at first, just saw them there. So for a second I thought that they might have been swimming in the reflecting pool.
Yeah, I'm smart.
Nothing says authentic DC experience quite like a dose of impetigo.
Must have been cooooold.
Water was warm actually (around 74 degrees), and felt pretty good after standing around in a bathing suit barefoot for 40 minutes waiting to start!
uggghh.... you've got to be CRAZY to swim in that water. It's filthy!
Aaaaaaaaacccck ... Cholera!
Get back in the Ganges, Liz.
Anyway, that's the advantage in having a river so polluted, all the fish are dead. At least you're not swimming in fish pee.
On the down side, swimmers have the nasty tendency to develop growths on their rectum that, if left untreated, develop into sentient tentacles that want to destroy America by putting the economy back on the gold standard and sabotage the President's healthcare agenda.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.
It's James Michener's "Potomac!" An experiment in horror, goggles, and impetigo.
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
...Wow.. I didn't know people actually swam in that.
