Southeastern University No Longer Accepting Students

2009_0914_southeastern.jpg In case you hadn't heard already, Southeastern University in Southwest D.C. lost its accreditation on Aug. 31, the Washington Post is just reporting now. A message on the school's web site simply states, "Southeastern will not be offering a Fall Session. We are not accepting students at this time."

The college has been in visible trouble for years, with word of its shaky accreditation status coming down from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the spring. The University of the District of Columbia had been interested in merging with the school, but Southeastern decided to move forward with the GS Graduate School as a partner instead. That deal is still pending, and it remains to be seen what, if anything, may rise from the ashes of Southeastern.

As for the remaining 300 or so students left at Southeastern, the Post reports that many of them have transferred to similar nearby schools like UDC, Trinity Washington University or Washington Adventist University.

Southeastern University in Southwest D.C.

This never would have happend if they were located in Southeast DC.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania never seems to have that problem.

I'm sorry, Kirk. We didn't all go to Gudger College.

Kind of like the Capitol South Metro not being on South Capitol Street.

that would be true if it were called the Capitol South STREET metro station, but it's not.

guess the money they just spent on the physical plant was all for naught.

These people are evil! They took me on as a student last Spring, KNOWING they were likely going to go under and yet they took my money anyway with know warning at all and no disclosure as to this situation. I didnt know until after my first month of classes, long past the refund date... I wasted $15k in loans on that semester, thank you very much SEU!

"with no warning" jeez with spelling like that no wonder I had to go to SEU... oye!

What the f....
I didn't even know that university existed.

I live two blocks from it, walk by it most every day, and barely noticed its existence. I think this sums up why it failed.

It looked more like an under-utilized library than an institution of higher learning. Oh my. I just made a funny.

Get back in the Book-Mobile, Liz.

Ok, so they had 10 faculty members for 30 academic programs, all the while relying on 150 adjuncts?! Thank goodness they lost accreditation.
