You know, with all the recent, well-publicized difficulties that professional athletes seem to be having with laws involving driving and guns, perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised that one would eventually combine reckless behavior with both in one fell swoop. Enter Delonte West, a member of the Cleveland LeBrons Cavaliers and a former area high school standout. According to the Post, when West was pulled over on his motorcycle for cutting off a Prince George's County police officer on I-95 Thursday night, he was packing "a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back" -- a ridiculous amount of iron to be hauling around. Police also noted that it was "unclear" where West was going, and why exactly he felt the need to engage his inner El Mariachi. West, who was named the Post's All-Met High School Basketball Player of the Year in the 2000-01 season, is from nearby Greenbelt and was released under his own recognizance, possibly (but hopefully not) to go figure out ways to strap more weaponry to his body.

West was pulled over on his motorcycle...he was packing "a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back"
Livin' the dream, baby!!!
BTW-I believe Monkey gave him the guitar case idea.
So was he Austermuhled?
I just logged in to ask for NewHCE's comment, but I see he just beat me to the punch. I prefer to strap 2 pump action 12 gauge shotguns over each shoulder. Was he on a crotch-rocket or cruiser type motorcycle? I need to finish painting this picture.
Actually, it was a trike according to WaPo. This is what we enthusiast call going "Full Terminator." I'm guessing it has full Ape Bars.
I really want to hear what his excuse is.
At first I thought he might have a CCW, since in Md., only famous or rich people can get them. But I guess not. More badass to carry illegally.
What, no machine gun? Rookie.
Couldn't he have mounted a gatling gun between the handlebars?
what an amateur! hasn't this guy ever heard of a posse? that's what you hire hangers-on for!
This would have been so much cooler if he was packing samurai swords. And now... another episode from "Samurai C.H.I.P.S."
Laugh at samurai swords, but in some cities packing folded steel is an effective back yard protector for the undergraduate on a budget. With the hoops and hassle of legal gun ownership in D.C., katanas might very well be a practical solution. Besides, you can't nearly chop off someone's hand before impaling them to death with an assault rifle. Swords are fun!
Liz, donn't deny it. You are turned on. Just a little.
Yikes! Is it that obvious?
Ah, another upstanding role-model for innocent children enticed to the darkside by an over-appreciation of their second amendment rights.
Did he have a permit to own any of them?
Oh come on!! He was not doing anything bad. He was just a normal, law abiding citizen like you or me who just happened to be caught on his trike with a ruger, a semi and a shotgun in a guitar case. Like you've never been in that situation.
Geez, you anti-gunners are so sensitive about these things.
On a serious note, I am shaking my head. These douches are like the wingnuts at the Obama rallies. They don't help the cause.
if you want to root for your team, you have to accept the crazies as well...
It's interesting that even the cops acknowledged that carrying the cased shotgun was legal; it's the concealed handguns they arrested him for.
It's also interesting that West "played by the rules" by immediately informing the officer that he had a gun. There's a good chance the cop would never have otherwise found out (since he had no legal reason to search West).
With a concealed-carry license (freely available in most other states), he would have been a model citizen.
Yes, a model citizen who drives recklessly.
actually, given the traffic stop and the cased shotgun, the cop had every legal reason to search or frisk to check west for a weapon on his person.
Actually since the shot gun was in a guitar case I doubt that presents PC to search him. But maybe the traffic stop is enough if the COP can articulate a suspicion that he might be armed and dangerous. Had he keep his mouth shut he might have been OK.
If you think anyone who cuts off a cop while heavily and illegally armed is "okay".
Sweet touch, btw, having his dad proxy for him in speaking with the press. It shows a certain (lack) of maturity.
This article failed to mention that west wasn't just on any standard motorcycle. He was on a three-wheeled motorcycle. Yes folks he's on an adult Tricycle. Which make him less El Mariachi and more El Grover packing heat.
I find it interesting that both shotguns and three-wheeled motorcycles are recommended equipment in the Zombie Survival Guide. Have the dead risen to devour the flesh of the living? If so, will it interfere with the Green Line?
Just goes to show sports are the root of all evil.
I've always thought that neck tattoos were the root of all evil.
WTF? People are allowed to own firearms in Maryland? That's a mistake.
This article also fails to mention that Delonte West struggles with bipolar disorder.
If you're familiar with the guy's bio, he's not exactly stone cold or anything.
"Ridiculous amount of iron"? He was in PG County for goodness sake. How can you be too heavily armed.
